Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Purchaser with a strong background in the construction industry. The Purchaser will be responsible for managing the end-to-end procurement process for construction materials and services. This role ensures that all purchases are cost-effective, delivered on time to project sites, and compliant with company policies and budget requirements. The ideal candidate will coordinate closely with operations and suppliers to support successful project execution.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Supplier Management:
- Demonstrate commitment to company policies, procedures, guidelines, and initiatives, including Ethics, Goal Zero, and core values such as Safety, Growth, Integrity, Quality, and Collaboration.
- Source and purchase construction materials and onsite services needed for projects at construction sites, ensuring timely delivery and required quantities.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, evaluate vendor performance, and develop a reliable network of qualified vendors. Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts to secure the best value.
- Process and review incoming goods and services to ensure they match purchase orders and delivery receipts, exercising the Three-Way Matching principle. Work with suppliers to resolve discrepancies before invoicing.
- Maintain accurate records of purchases, contracts, and vendor communications, ensuring compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and audit requirements.
- Support the accounting team during month-end closing and assist the Shared Services Group with any invoice vouchering issues.
- Coordinate with Colas Western Canada Procurement team.
- Perform other duties as required.
Cost Control & Budget Compliance:
- Monitor purchasing activities to ensure adherence to project budgets.
- Review quotes and invoices to confirm costs align with budgets.
- Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities, such as bulk purchasing or alternative suppliers, without compromising quality, to enhance project profitability.
Qualifications & Experience
- 1-3 years of proven experience in procurement or purchasing within the construction industry, with a strong understanding of project needs and timelines.
- Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) or equivalent certification is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with JD Edwards Software and OnBase is an asset.
- Ability to quickly learn new software tools.
- Strong analytical skills for evaluating quotes, comparing pricing, and assessing cost-benefit.
- Excellent negotiation skills for establishing favorable terms with suppliers.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with operations, suppliers, and finance teams.
- Knowledge of construction materials, equipment, and supply chain processes, including lead times and market factors.
- Strong work ethic, responsibility, confidentiality, and high attention to detail.
