Job summary

Griff Building Supplies Ltd. is seeking a Forklift Operator to safely prepare, load, and move lumber, beams and building materials for customer deliveries and pickups in New Westminster, BC.

You will ensure accurate orders, maintain a clean and safe yard, and perform daily forklift inspections in accordance with company policies. Responsibilities include loading, staging, packing weather‑sensitive items, rotating stock (FIFO), and assisting with inventory counts.

Qualifications

• Forklift certification required.
• First aid level 2 is an asset.
• EWP experience is an asset.

Job Purpose

The Forklift Operator reports to the Director of Logistics and is responsible for safely and efficiently preparing, loading, and moving lumber, beams, and other building materials to support customer deliveries and pickups. This role ensures all materials are handled, stored, and transported in accordance with company policies and safety standards while maintaining high levels of accuracy, quality, and customer service. The Forklift Operator maintains a clean, organized, and safe work environment, operates equipment responsibly, and contributes to the efficient operation of the yard by ensuring customer orders are completed accurately, on time, and in a manner that supports a positive customer experience.

Duties and responsibilities

• Build, stage, and verify customer orders for accuracy and timely delivery or pickup.


• Wrap and protect all weather-sensitive products prior to shipment.


• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area following a "clean as you go" approach.


• Safely operate forklifts and complete daily equipment inspections and required documentation.


• Maintain assigned tools and equipment in good working order.


• Follow company policies, procedures, and WorkSafeBC safety requirements, reporting any hazards or concerns.


• Assist with inventory counts and ensure proper stock rotation (FIFO).


• Participate in staff meetings, training, and the onboarding of new employees.


• Inspect and prepare materials to ensure orders meet company quality standards.


• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Competencies

Working conditions

• Work in all weather conditions and have the ability to lift at least 50 lbs on a regular basis.


• Safety boots and all-black clothing / raingear must be worn while working.
