Foreperson 1 - Grounds Maintenance

Duration: Temporary Full Time

Salary: $38.65 – 40.26 – 41.93 – 43.65/hour

Schedule: 80 hours bi-weekly; Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM

This position works in the Developed Parks organizational unit. This is supervisory work in the planning, assigning, supervising, reviewing and as required, participating in the work of one or more crews of subordinates engaged in a variety of public parks grounds maintenance, sports field maintenance, trail maintenance, irrigation, eco-sculpture, habitat restoration, invasive species control, park amenity maintenance, and minor construction tasks. The incumbent assists in the preliminary budget estimates and monitors actual expenditures and advises a supervisor of any anticipated problems; motivates, allocates, trains and disciplines members of crews; plans, assigns, supervises, reviews, inspects and may participate in the work of one or more crews of subordinates engaged in a variety of public parks operations such as mowing, fertilizing, sports field preparation and maintenance, trail maintenance, irrigation system installation and repair, habitat restoration, invasive species management, tree removal, maintenance and repair of park furniture, bleachers, picnic tables and other park amenities, and a variety of other related maintenance and construction activities as well as participate in snow & ice control. The successful candidate will be required to accept standby and call-out work assignments. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include completion of Grade 12, preferably supplemented by training or courses related to the work plus considerable related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, materials and equipment used in public parks ground maintenance, sports field maintenance, irrigation systems, minor construction, eco-sculpture, habitat restoration, and/or invasive species control and removal operations such as environmental regulations and practices (such as nesting season, fish-bearing streams, and environmentally sensitive areas). Considerable knowledge of hazards and safety standards applicable to the work performed. Ability to plan, assign, supervise, review, and participate in the work of subordinate crews; prepare and maintain records and reports using electronic systems and applications (e.g. Microsoft Word and Excel); establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates and the public. Skill in the use and care of equipment, materials and vehicles used in the work. A valid Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia.

This is a Temporary Full Time until May 14, 2027.
