The City of Burnaby is seeking a Playground Maintenance Worker to inspect playground equipment, park furniture and related facilities to ensure safe operation and compliance with guidelines. This is semi-skilled parks facility and equipment maintenance, repair, and minor construction work. A Playground Maintenance Worker inspects playground equipment, park furniture, related installations and various facilities for damage and ensure safe operation according to established guidelines; performs routine maintenance and repair tasks such as lubricating moving parts, replacing worn parts, pressure washing structures; identifies equipment or facilities requiring more complex repair or replacement, notifies supervisor of same. Erects and dismantles playground equipment and/or removes and replaces aging and inadequate equipment; recommends installation of new equipment or parts and orders replacement parts as directed; documents hazards, vandalism, and repairs by photograph; reads and implements manufacturers' maintenance and safety provisions related to playground equipment. Other responsibilities include directing the work of one or more labourers engaged in routine maintenance work; preparing and maintaining routine work records; operating a light vehicle to transport tools, materials or equipment. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include up to grade 12 and sound experience in parks' operations and maintenance tasks or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, and tools used in performing routine repair and maintenance tasks related to the work; of the hazards and safety precautions and standards applicable to the work performed. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and maintain records as required; to direct the work of one or more labourers. Skill in the use and care of tools, equipment and materials used in the work. A CPRA - Certified Playground Inspector and Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia are required.
This is a Temporary Full Time position until May 14, 2027.
