Job summary

The Saskatoon Police Service is seeking a data management specialist within the Criminal Investigations Bureau. You will organize and convert investigative data and exhibits for electronic systems and assist prosecutors with disclosure.

You will review financial documents, enter data, and help identify key evidence for court use. Ideal candidates have a post-secondary accounting-related education, two years of related office experience, and strong written and verbal communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Completed a recognized one-year post-secondary business program including Introductory Accounting 1/2 and Intermediate Accounting 1/2; Management Accounting 1/2.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, prepare, oversee and convert investigative data to electronic formats to support court proceedings.
  • Assist liaising with Crown Prosecutors for court disclosure.
  • Organize data (paper exhibits) for entry into electronic applications (e.g., Major Case Management).
  • Enter investigative data into electronic applications after reading documents to identify key information.
  • Assist investigators in identifying evidence in financial data and creating documents to capture that evidence for court use.
  • Proofread documents for accuracy and consistency against source information and police systems.

Job description

Department: Criminal Investigations Bureau

  • Manages, prepares and oversees the organization, analysis, and conversion of investigative data and paper-based exhibits in a logical standardized sequence to facilitate electronic format conversion and data capture and ensure continuity of proof for court purposes.
  • Assists the Economic Crime Section personnel in liaising with the Crown Prosecutors office in line with policies and procedures for court disclosure.
  • Organizes incoming data, including paper exhibits, for entry into electronic applications (i.e. Major Case Management).
  • Enters investigative data into electronic applications, involving reading investigative/financial documents, to identify key information as defined by the investigator.
  • Assists investigators in identifying relevant evidence contained in financial data and documents. Creates new documents and spreadsheets to capture that evidence to further the investigation, which will be used in court proceedings.
  • Proofreads investigative/financial documents for completeness, accuracy and consistency by verifying information through the source investigator and performing checks on various police information systems (i.e. RMS, CPIC).
  • Scans documents and secures and handles exhibits in accordance with SPS policy.
  • Updates manual and electronic logs to track steps completed to process investigative data in electronic applications.
  • Types and formats documents for judicial applications (i.e. Production Orders).
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Successful completion of a recognized one-year post-secondary business-related program plus or including:
    • Introductory Accounting 1
    • Introductory Accounting 2
    • Intermediate Accounting 1
    • Intermediate Accounting 2
    • Management Accounting 1
    • Management Accounting 2
  • Successful completion of a Fraud Prevention, Detection and Investigation course would be an asset.
  • Two years’ related office experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of the principles of office management and current office procedures and systems.
  • Knowledge of forensic accounting investigative methods used in a civil and/or criminal litigations context.
  • Knowledge of the various fraud schemes, legal elements of fraud and investigative steps.
  • Ability to pass the Saskatoon Police Service security clearance process.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement when dealing with protected and sensitive information.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to problem solve and think creatively to capture and calculate relevant financial data from gross data sets.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to maintain attention to detail and to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to collect, organize and analyze financial information.
  • Ability to interpret, and make decisions in accordance with, established policies, procedures and processes.
  • Experience working in investigation or forensic accounting in the securities industry (statutes and regulations).
  • Skill in the operation of current office equipment, including a computer with Microsoft Office word processing software, specifically the Excel program.

$61,280.40 to $67,561.44 per annum (2026 rates)
