Job summary

Aramark is hiring a Food Service Worker at Dalhousie University Life Sciences Center. You will help keep dishware, equipment, and surroundings clean while assisting with basic food service tasks and customer interaction.

The role offers exposure to a union environment with SEIU Local 2 and a pay range of $18.88–$19.88 per hour. Previous food service experience is helpful; WHMIS, Food Safe certification, and First Aid are assets.

Qualifications

• High standards of food safety and hygiene required.

Responsibilities

• Provide quality, courteous service to customers.
• Process transactions and balance cash float.
• Educate customers on menu items and daily features.
• Maintain cleanliness of work areas and equipment.
• Prepare food at assigned station per menu.
• Stock shelves and prep areas; manage bars and coolers.
• Wash and sanitize dishes and utensils as needed.
• Record temperatures and logs; follow FIFO.

Job Responsibilities

• Assures quality, courteous customer service is provided to all customers
• Light cash handling duties including processing customer transactions, balancing float, participating in audits
• Educate customers on menu items, daily features, dining hall events
• Maintains continual cleaning and sanitizing of surrounding work area
• Food preparation in accordance with menu at assigned station
• Stock and merchandise shelves, cereal and bread bar, salad bar, and coolers
• May wash and sanitize dishes and utensils
• Record temperatures, label products in accordance with FIFO, complete waste log and cleaning log
• Adhere to all Aramark and Dalhousie University policies and procedures
• May perform other job duties as required

Qualifications

• Previous food service experience is an asset
• Valid WHMIS and Food Safe (Basic or Advanced), First Aid Certification is an asset
• Knowledge of and commitment to upholding high standards of food safety and hygiene.
• Additional certification may be required by work location
• Ability to work effectively and efficiently supervised and unsupervised
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a genuine desire to provide outstanding customer service.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team, collaborating with colleagues to ensure smooth operations.

This role may have physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling and/or extended walking and standing. This role may also require uniforms and/or usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
