Job Description

Position Purpose: The role involves preparing and serving food and snacks in a community-based setting, maintaining cleanliness and hygiene, and supporting food operations, working with vulnerable populations including children, youth, and adults.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up serving equipment such as tables, Cambros, warming trays.
  • Handle food safely according to standards to ensure client safety.
  • Follow legislative procedures and Salvation Army standards for dishwashing and cleaning.
  • Dispose of food waste properly.
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen and equipment (washing dishes, cleaning surfaces, floors).
  • Keep simple records and incident reports as needed.
  • Prepare simple foods and drinks.
  • Create meal plans considering the Canada Food Guide for healthy options.
  • Collect and report statistical data as required.
Health & Safety

Maintain personal cleanliness, adhere to safe food handling and equipment operation procedures, understand hazard communication protocols, and perform other work-related duties safely.

Relationship Management

Internal: Ministry Unit leadership and staff
External: Participants (Children, Youth, Adults)

Supervision and Responsibilities

Reports to: Corps Officer(s).
No direct reports.

Financial & Material Management
  • Assist with ordering, receiving, and stocking food and supplies.
  • Handle minor material responsibilities, such as safekeeping of food and donations.
  • Use organization assets responsibly.
Working Conditions

Long hours standing, working in close proximity to others, physically demanding tasks, operating kitchen and cleaning equipment, working indoors and outdoors in various environmental conditions, possibly operating a large food truck, and lifting up to 30 lbs.

Qualifications
  • Willingness to support The Salvation Army's mission.
  • Some high school, Food Safe Certification, First Aid + CPR + AED.
  • Class 5 Driver's License (Class 4 is an asset), WHMIS is an asset.
  • Criminal Background and Vulnerable Sector Checks required.
  • Up to 3 months related experience preferred; experience with food trucks and working with youth is an asset.
Skills & Capabilities
  • Clearance through child & youth abuse prevention and fleet screening.
  • Teamwork and adaptability skills.
Compensation

Target range: $15.65 to $16.90, up to $20.28 based on experience and qualifications.
