Job Description:
JOB PURPOSE:

The Bus Person is responsible for assisting in serving meals, preparing eating areas, and maintaining cleanliness in the dining rooms.

CHARACTERISTIC JOB DUTIES:
  • Sets tables, serves meals, and sets up dining room
  • Ensures the safety of clients through proper handling of food according to food standards
  • Follows legislative procedures and The Salvation Army standards for clean and dirty dishes
  • Ensures appropriate disposal of food waste in accordance with regulations
  • Maintains cleanliness of kitchen and dining room (cleaning tables, floors, servers, and kitchen equipment)
  • May prepare simple foods (e.g., toast, tea)
  • Maintains a high level of cleanliness at all times within the kitchen and storage areas
  • Performs other duties as assigned
MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL ATTAINED:

High School diploma or equivalent.

SPECIAL LICENSES, DIPLOMAS, CERTIFICATIONS OR REQUIREMENTS:

WHMIS, First Aid, Food Safe certification, Criminal Record Check

MINIMUM PRIOR RELATED EXPERIENCE:

At least three months of related experience, including institutional kitchen experience or equivalent.

PHYSICAL EFFORT/DEXTERITY REQUIRED:

Frequent standing, manipulating foods, moderate lifting, cutting, chopping, carrying supplies, walking. Must be able to lift more than 20 pounds.

CONCENTRATION REQUIRED:

Attention to safety procedures, moderate focus when serving and cleaning dishes and equipment.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR FINANCIAL RESOURCES:

Minimal to no financial responsibilities.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR HUMAN RESOURCES:

Responsible for own effort and time; may demonstrate work methods to new employees.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Kitchen setting in a ministry or social services facility, with potential conditions such as dealing with angry individuals, verbal abuse, crowded spaces, and pressure with timelines.

EXPOSURE TO HAZARDS:

Possible exposure to physical attacks, toxic chemicals, moving or sharp objects, electrical hazards, injuries from lifting, slippery floors, cuts, burns, and freezer entry.

PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES:

Use of universal precautions, rubber mats, protective coats, gloves, hepatitis B immunization, and tuberculosis vaccination.

HOURS OF WORK:

Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, or as required.

Compensation:

Range: $24.02 to $24.40, up to $24.77. Placement based on experience and qualifications. Reasonable accommodations available upon request via Recruitment.Accommodations@salvationarmy.ca
