Algoma Steel Inc. in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, seeks an experienced Electrical Maintenance technician for the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) maintenance team. The role is on-site and requires strong safety and planning skills.

Health & Safety

  • Accountable for the execution of Health & Safety practices and procedures as per the Company's Health & Safety Program and the Occupational Health & Safety Act, including employee training and pre-job meetings
  • Lead monthly and daily crew safety meetings and improve safety performance of maintenance personnel through coaching and training
  • Identify and eliminate safety hazards in the workplace (e.g., safety audits, housekeeping, etc.)
  • Develop, implement and monitor department job safe practices, department specific standard operating procedures, and lock-outs.

Equipment health and reliability

  • Monitor equipment and maintenance KPIs and take action to address shortfalls
  • Accountable for Mtce tradespeople accurately recording findings during inspections and responding to condition-based monitoring triggers
  • Accountable for overall equipment reliability and execution of equipment maintenance strategies

Work identification, prioritization, and planning

  • Meet daily with team to review new requests and changes to planning status, priority, requirements, schedule, and job status
  • Accountable for tradespeople identifying work found during inspections with an appropriately detailed notification in SAP (Where necessary, write work notifications for found work)
  • Coordinate with planner to review and validate priority of incoming work requests, consult on job plan development and ensure work order is completed with required resources/parts
  • Decide on break-in work that has no impact on the production schedule and less than 10% impact on the maintenance weekly schedule according to a pre-defined prioritization matrix
  • Send notifications to service groups or contractors for emergency or break-in work
  • Develop budget and monitor funding allocations for priority work and elevate issues as required
  • Organize and schedule planned and break-in work, and assign tasks to specific trades (by person)
  • Attend weekly department scheduling meeting to review and lock weekly schedules.

Executing work

  • Review daily schedule in pre shift huddle, assign work orders, and ensure quality of work during execution and at work completion
  • Accountable for Mtce tradesperson carrying out work as planned, entering confirmations on work orders, and recording feedback on job plans / bill of materials
  • Provide technical assistance and technical skill building to tradespeople
  • Manage the delivery of maintenance service from external service providers
  • Reviewing / absorbing feedback
  • Lead pre- and post-shift huddles, line walks, and process confirmations to create a culture of execution accountability and safety, to celebrate successes, and to create a venue for giving feedback on work orders, job plans, and maintenance / equipment improvements
Qualifications
  • Must have a relevant, Trade Certificate, or 3 year technology diploma, or Bachelor of Engineering, with a minimum of 5 years experience in the maintenance/projects field.
  • Must be able to interpret blueprints and drawings
  • Must be willing to commit to EAF project through construction, commissioning and ramp up periods.
  • Must have a valid passport and be willing to travel
  • Demonstrated knowledge in hydraulics, pneumatics, gas distribution, process automation, and control systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to the Health, Safety and Environmental policies
  • Good knowledge of hoisting, rigging, welding, and regulations surrounding such.
  • CWB Supervisor Certified OR eligibility.
  • Strong computer skills and experience with Algoma’s systems including Microsoft Office (email, word processing, spreadsheets, project scheduling) and SAP.
  • Should possess working knowledge of maintenance practices and procedures.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational and leadership skills.
  • Familiarity with the Steelmaking process is an asset.
  • Supervisory experience is an asset.

This posting is for an existing salaried union (2724) vacancy that is located on-site in Sault Ste. Marie.

The annual salary range for this position is$10,926.80 - $10,926.80, commensurate with education and experience. In addition to a competitive salary, Algoma Steel offers a profit sharing plan, a comprehensive benefits package, and a defined contribution pension plan.
