Job summary

The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka is seeking a dedicated Assistant Teacher Float to join our team across multiple locations in Central Ontario. You will engage with children through play-based learning, ensure safety, and support families and staff.

We value compassion, teamwork, and a passion for child development. Full-time hours include 7:00am–6:00pm with flexibility for different sites and schedules.

Qualifications

• Minimum 18 years of age.
• Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable personal vehicle; ability to travel to multiple locations.
• First Aid and CPR (Level C) certification or completion within first 90 days.
• Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check.
• Immunizations up-to-date or per local health regulations.
• Reliable transportation to all community locations in a timely manner.
• Availability Monday to Friday, 30-40 hours/week, 7:00am–6:00pm, with split shifts.
• Flexibility to work at different locations and daily schedule changes.
• Passion for working with children and play-based learning.
• Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 20 kg (44 lbs.), and participate in physical activities.
• Ability to work outdoors for at least 2 hours daily year-round, in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Provide personal care to children including toileting/diaper changes and first aid.
• Administer medication and monitor dietary needs, allergies and medical conditions.
• Supervise and engage with up to 15 children in a group setting.
• Plan and implement play-based learning per YMCA Curriculum.
• Maintain positive, professional communication with families, staff and volunteers.
• Offer an inclusive environment supporting children with exceptional behaviours and needs.
• Demonstrate alignment with our Mission, Vision and Values.
• Adhere to the work schedule to maintain ratios and notify supervisor of schedule changes.
• Be flexible with routines and shifts.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
