Job summary

Volatus Aerospace is seeking a Flight Ops & Test Technician to build, prepare, test and maintain UAV platforms in support of flight operations and development activities.

Qualifications

  • Strong assembly skills with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to identify potential issues before they become operational problems.
  • Basic UAV piloting ability through hobby, simulator, academic, or practical experience.
  • Familiarity with at least one ground control software platform such as Mission Planner, QGroundControl, or Piccolo Command Centre.
  • Strong process discipline with the ability to follow checklists, logs, documentation, and operational procedures accurately.
  • Calm and methodical troubleshooting approach in fast-paced field environments.

Responsibilities

  • Build and integrate UAV systems and aircraft components by following wiring diagrams, assembly procedures, and technical instructions with precision and attention to detail.
  • Conduct comprehensive pre-flight and post-flight inspections, including physical, electrical, and software validation checks prior to all flight operations.
  • Pilot and support UAV test flights, including manual hover testing, transition testing, and scripted flight patterns while documenting anomalies and observations in real time.
  • Operate ground control systems such as Mission Planner, QGroundControl, Piccolo Command Centre, or equivalent platforms to support flight operations and testing activities.
  • Monitor telemetry data, configure geofencing parameters, and verify flight configurations to ensure safe and successful aircraft operations.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Volatus Aerospace is seeking Flight Ops & Test Technician is responsible for building, preparing, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining UAV platforms in support of flight operations and development activities. From aircraft assembly and pre‑flight preparation to flight testing, data logging, and field troubleshooting, this role plays a key part in ensuring safe, efficient, and successful test operations.

The ideal candidate thrives in a structured and fast‑paced field environment, is highly detail‑oriented, and takes pride in following operational procedures and checklists with precision. You are calm under pressure, honest in your observations, and capable of turning around aircraft efficiently for the next test cycle. Your work directly supports engineering development, operational readiness, and continuous improvement across our UAV programs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Build and integrate UAV systems and aircraft components by following wiring diagrams, assembly procedures, and technical instructions with precision and attention to detail.
  • Conduct comprehensive pre‑flight and post‑flight inspections, including physical, electrical, and software validation checks prior to all flight operations.
  • Pilot and support UAV test flights, including manual hover testing, transition testing, and scripted flight patterns while documenting anomalies and observations in real time.
  • Operate ground control systems such as Mission Planner, QGroundControl, Piccolo Command Centre, or equivalent platforms to support flight operations and testing activities.
  • Monitor telemetry data, configure geofencing parameters, and verify flight configurations to ensure safe and successful aircraft operations.
  • Log, organize, and maintain flight test data including flight logs, video recordings, photographs, timestamps, and operational observations following each test session.
  • Perform routine maintenance and field repairs including propeller replacement, motor replacement, connector rewiring, and general troubleshooting activities to maintain aircraft readiness.
  • Prepare clear and accurate build, maintenance, and flight test reports to support engineering analysis, troubleshooting, and continuous design improvements.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as may be reasonably assigned by the Company from time to time.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATION

HOURS OF WORK AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • The position is an onsite role, and the Employee is required to perform their duties primarily at the Company’s designated workplace, as directed by the Company.
  • The standard work schedule consists of forty (40) hours per week, typically performed Monday to Friday, subject to operational requirements.
  • From time to time, the Employee may be required to maintain reasonable flexibility in working hours to support operational needs, time‑sensitive activities, or business priorities.
