Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Lead the integration and validation of avionics, communications, flight-control parameters, and control systems prior to flight.
  • Configure and test mission planning software to ensure accurate navigation and readiness.
  • Set up and validate QC Connect, radio transmitters/receivers, and autopilot configurations (PX4, ArduPilot, and others).
  • Validate aircraft flight parameters and mechanical responses including control-surface direction and fail-safe behavior.
  • Perform electrical-health and parasitic-load checks (battery, power distribution, sensor health).
  • Conduct ground and flight testing for fixed-wing drones and manned/unmanned aircraft.
  • Develop comprehensive test plans with pre-flight checklists and validation protocols.
  • Troubleshoot integration issues across hardware and software systems.
  • Produce data-driven validation reports for engineering and flight operations teams.
  • Collaborate with flight test engineers, software developers, and QA teams.

As part of our continued growth and innovation initiatives, we are seeking a Validation Engineer -flight Systems Integration to join our team and support the development, integration, and testing of advanced RPAS platforms and avionics systems.

POSITION OVERVIEW

As a Validation Engineer,you’llbe the bridge between design and the skies.You’llensure that every avionicscomponent, communication link, and control system works flawlessly before takeoff. Your work will directly influence mission success, from crafting robust test plans to fine-tuning autopilot configurations. When ouraircrafttakes flight, it will do so with your fingerprints on every system that makes it possible.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead the integration and validation of avionics, communications,flight-control parameters,and control systems prior to flight.
  • Configure and test mission planning software (e.g., Mission Planner) to ensureaccuratenavigation and operational readiness.
  • Set up andvalidateQC Connect, radio transmitters/receivers, and autopilot configurations (including PX4,ArduPilot, and other open-source flight control systems).
  • Validateaircraftflight parameters and mechanical responses, including control-surface direction, wing movement, servo travel, angle limits, and fail-safe behavior.
  • Perform electrical-health and parasitic-load checks, including battery condition, power distribution, standby current draw, sensor health, and connector integrity.
  • Conduct ground and flight testing forfixed-wing drones and manned/unmannedaircraft, ensuring stability, control, and mission compliance.
  • Develop comprehensive test plans, including pre-flight checklists, validation protocols, and contingency procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve integration issues across hardware and software systems.
  • Produce clear, data-driven validation reports for engineering and flight operations teams.
  • Collaborate closely with flight test engineers, software developers, and quality assurance teams to ensure seamless system performance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION
  • Hands on experience in aerospace validation engineering, flight test support, UAV systems integration, or a related technical role.
  • Bachelor’s degreerequiredin Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field; a master’s degree is considered an asset.
  • Hands-on experience with fixed-wing drones oraircraft, including system integration, tuning, and performance validation.
  • Mandatory hands-on experience with Mission Planner,QGroundControl(QGC), or similar ground control station software, including mission planning and autopilot configuration.
  • Ability to calibrate drones,completeinitialsystemconfiguration, and prepareaircraftforsafeflight testing.
  • Familiarity with QC Connect, radio TX/RX systems, telemetry data handling, andMAVLinkprotocols.
  • Strong understanding of flight test procedures, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance.
  • Canadian citizenship is mandatory; candidates must also be eligible to obtain andmaintaina Canadian security clearance.
  • Preferred certifications or training include FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate, equivalent EASA A2/C2 certification, DO-178C/DO-254 compliance exposure, or Safety Management System (SMS) training.
  • Ability to design and execute structured test plans and translate results into actionable insights.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under tight timelines.
  • A collaborative mindset and clear communication skills for cross-functional teamwork.
HOURS OF WORK AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • The position is an onsite role, and the Employee is required to perform their duties primarily at the Company’s designated workplace, as directed by the Company.
  • The standard work schedule consists of forty (40) hours per week, typically performed Monday to Friday, subject to operational requirements.
  • From time to time, the Employee may be required to maintain reasonable flexibility in working hours to support operational needs, time-sensitive activities, or business priorities.
