About The Opportunity

Our Americas company is seeking an experienced and motivated Credit and Collections Team Leader. This pivotal role involves driving and optimizing the collections and recoveries process for the corporate business. It requires a proactive self-starter to oversee credit collection strategies, collaborate with stakeholders, and lead the collections team. The goal is to streamline debtor payments, minimize invoice-to-pay days, ensure accurate receipt allocation, and maintain cash flow.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate ongoing credit assessments and conduct client credit checks.
  • Notify debtors of upcoming or outstanding invoices via letter, email, or phone.
  • Ensure payments are made within agreed terms.
  • Research, analyze, and resolve client deductions and unapplied credits.
  • Manage and collect debts from company debtors.
  • Establish credit terms for clients.
  • Take action against debtors evading or refusing repayment as per credit terms.
  • Maintain detailed records of collection activities and communications.
  • Provide customer service regarding collection issues, process account adjustments, refunds, bad debt write-offs, and settlements.
  • Respond promptly to client inquiries via voicemail or written communication.
  • Prepare reports for commercial managers and business leaders across Canada and the USA.
  • Coordinate with customer success managers and the sales team.
  • Regularly analyze the credit-control system and implement improvements to reduce bad debts.
  • Process irreconcilable debts, such as bankruptcies, for write-off and archiving.
  • Generate and distribute month-end reports to senior management.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, maintaining composure under pressure, with a diplomatic yet firm approach.
  • Attention to detail in numbers, spelling, and dates.
  • Flexibility to adapt to change and meet challenging deadlines.
  • Proven negotiation skills for payments and handling disputes.
  • Familiarity with ERPs (Microsoft Dynamics) and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Initiative to resolve issues and identify opportunities.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Resilient personality to handle reluctant debtors.
