Job description

Our Americas company is looking for an experienced and motivated Credit and Collections Team Leader who will play a pivotal role in driving and optimizing the collections and recoveries process for the corporate business. This is a critical and highly visible position requiring a strong self-starter.

This hands-on role will oversee the credit collections strategies by working with internal and external stakeholders whilst leading and growing the collections team. The goal is to effectively streamline and optimize debtor payments while minimizing invoiced to pay days ensuring accurate allocation of customer receipts and compliance with terms while maintaining cash flow.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluating ongoing credit assessments and conducting client credit checks.
  • Notify debtors by letter, email, or telephone call of upcoming or outstanding invoices
  • Ensuring payments are on track to be paid within the agreed terms
  • Assisting the team with researching, analyzing, and resolving client deductions and unapplied credits
  • Managing and collecting debts from company debtors.
  • Setting up the terms of credit for clients.
  • Initiate action against debtors who evade or refuse repayment according to their terms and conditions of approved credit
  • Keeping detailed records of collection activities and conversations (D365)
  • Providing customer service regarding collection issues, process and review account adjustments, process refunds, handle bad debt write-offs, and account settlements
  • Reply promptly to client questions and concerns received by voicemail or via written communication
  • Preparing reports for the commercial managers and business leaders across Canada and USA.
  • Liaising with customers success managers (CSM) and the sales team (BDM).
  • conduct regular analysis of the credit-control system and implement changes as needed to reduce bad debts
  • Process irreconcilable debts, as in the case of bankruptcy, to be written off and archived
  • Generate and distribute month end reports to Senior Management

Experience & Qualifications

  • To work as a credit controller, you need a minimum of a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in bookkeeping, accounts receivable, and previous experience in a senior credit and collections role.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision to accomplish team goals and objectives
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, with an ability to keep calm under pressure and a diplomatic but firm manner while developing relationships at all levels
  • Impeccable attention to detail, particularly numbers, spelling, and dates
  • High degree of flexibility with the ability to thrive under pressure and adhere to constant change and challenging deadlines
  • Proven track record of negotiating payments and handling disputed charges
  • Familiarity with ERPs (Microsoft Dynamics 365 required) to analyze payment patterns and enter data
  • Detailed working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, Teams, Outlook and,
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Possess strong initiative to resolve issues and pursue opportunities as they are identified
  • Proven time management and organizational skills
  • Because some debtors are reluctant to cooperate, you will need to have a resilient personality
