Description

Reporting to the Regional Fleet Manager, the Fleet Operations Manager oversees the daily maintenance activities of a fleet of over 300 vehicles, managing a team of 8–12 skilled technicians. The role involves strategic and hands-on support in scheduling vehicle maintenance, parts acquisition, warranty coverage, and vendor management across multiple garages.

The Fleet Operations Manager plays a key role in maintaining safety, compliance, performance standards, minimizing vehicle downtime, and driving continuous improvement within the fleet management team.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily maintenance activities across multiple garages, ensuring timely repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Lead and support a team of Fleet technicians, including performance management and on-site engagement.
  • Manage procurement and inventory of spare parts and supplies to minimize downtime.
  • Handle warranty claims and ensure credits, dollars, and rebates are captured from vendors.
  • Coordinate with third-party vendors supporting vehicle maintenance and repair.
  • Manage the garage budget, including labor, parts, and supplies, for cost-effective operations.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and compliance.
  • Act as the point of contact for stakeholders to address vehicle concerns and provide updates.
  • Analyze maintenance costs and vehicle performance to identify trends and improve efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
  • Travel regularly to garage locations for team engagement and site assessments (visiting each garage once per month).
Qualifications & Requirements

  • College diploma or equivalent education and training
  • 3-5 years experience in fleet, automotive, or branch operations
  • Experience in vendor management, customer service, and warranty processes
  • Leadership experience in service or maintenance teams, including hiring and performance management
  • 3+ years experience with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Understanding of continuous improvement methods, including 5S
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to balance operational and administrative priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to interpret safety and operational documents and produce reports
