Island EMS in Charlottetown, PEI, is seeking a Casual Fleet Maintenance/Runner to support vehicle maintenance, inventory, and supply tasks at the Charlottetown fleet centre. You will drive company vehicles to bases, assist inspections, and help prepare ambulances and support units for provincial events.

The role requires Grade 12, a Class 4 license, physical stamina, and a strong focus on safety and customer service. Overtime may apply.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Grade 12 education.
  • Valid class 4 license, or ability and willingness to obtain.
  • Experience in vehicle maintenance or inventory control is an asset.
  • Good dexterity, health, eyesight and coordination.
  • Driver's abstract within last 60 days.
  • Criminal record check within last 60 days.
  • Strong communication, multitasking and organizational skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform shifts as required.
  • WHMIS or willingness to obtain; First Aid is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Compile and maintain lists of mechanical, medical and cleaning parts.
  • Follow inventory procedures and stock management.
  • General base and vehicle maintenance.
  • Assist with quarterly inspections and driving to various bases.
  • Ensure ambulances and vehicles are stocked and maintained.
  • Maintain cleanliness of ambulance bays and facilities.
  • Prepare fleet assets for events and secure units after use.
  • Take operational direction from Fleet Manager and General Manager PEI.

Nature and Scope: Reporting to the Supervisor, Fleet & Logistics , the Fleet Maintenance/Runner is key part of Island EMS fleet operations that provides a well-maintained, safe, effective and efficient fleet of company vehicles and provides optimal staff and customer service. This position is located in the Charlottetown fleet centre. The incumbent is expected to conduct themselves in a safe and prudent manner. The Fleet Maintenance/Runner is responsible to ensure all ambulances and support units are safe, effective, maintained, cleaned and stocked in accordance with policies and procedures as stated by Island EMS.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Compile and maintain lists of all mechanical, medical and cleaning parts and supplies as required
  • Follow IEMS standard operational procedures for inventory and stock management
  • General base and vehicle maintenance
  • Operate under the Supervisor and Operations Manager to complete and participate in quarterly inspections
  • Driving company vehicles to IEMS bases, automotive centres, and other locations where required
  • Ensure all ambulances and company vehicles based out of the Fleet centre are stocked
  • Operate all vehicles in accordance with policies of IEMS; Conduct reasonable on-going cleanliness of ambulance bay during scheduled shift and at least once a week clean the center completely
  • Prepare fleet assets including ambulances, support units and specialized trailer for various events throughout the province; Securing the ambulance bay daily and ensures all units are powered down and secure
  • Take instruction and direction operationally from Fleet Manager and Fleet Supervisor
  • Take direction procedurally from General Manager of PEI Operations
  • Perform other such similar, comparable or related duties as may be required or assigned.

Salary: Casual; $21.00 Hourly

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Minimum Grade 12 education
  • Valid class 4 license , or ability and willingness to obtain
  • Experience working within vehicle maintenance or inventory control processing, and/or preventive maintenance programs is an asset
  • Good dexterity, general health, eyesight and physical coordination
  • Driver's abstract completed within the last 60 days
  • Criminal record check completed within the last 60 days

  • Steel toe work shoes are required

This position will be available for 12 months, with possible extension. Company uniform is to be worn at all times while on shift. Work will be conducted at Island EMS base(s), with occasional travel to dealers, manufacturers and maintenance facilities outside base when required. Exposure to low to moderate noise levels. Work includes moderate lifting and working with cleaning supplies and chemicals. Potential exposures to contaminated items. Training will be provided to the successful applicant upon hire. Irregular work schedules possibly shift work and overtime as needed. Service centers can be cluttered, greasy, and dirty at times. The employee will spend various periods of sitting, standing, walking, crouching, lifting, and/or carrying light objects. Required to maintain one position for possible long periods of time, such as sitting, standing, or driving. Posting application deadline is September 18, 2026 at 5:00 PM.
