Job summary

BGIS is seeking a Fire Alarm Technician in the Niagara Region, Canada. In this full-time position, you will be responsible for inspecting facilities and fire alarm systems to ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations. You will communicate with building occupants and stakeholders to provide solutions for fire safety concerns. A College diploma in Fire Protection and CFAA certification are required. The hourly salary range is $30.48 to $42.00 based on your experience and education.

Qualifications

  • Completion of CFAA certification is required.
  • Good knowledge of fire and life safety practices, related codes/regulations.
  • Ability to communicate technical and non-technical information clearly.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect facilities to ensure compliance with applicable codes.
  • Analyse causes of fire alarms and communicate solutions to stakeholders.
  • Assist the property management team with fire and life safety support as required.

Job description

The Fire Alarm Technician will report to the Regional Operations Manager. The role involves completing code‑compliant testing and inspections, assessing risks, reporting, and proposing solutions on fire prevention matters in compliance with ULC, NFC, NFPA and other regulations. The technician will liaise between building occupants, facility managers, and stakeholders with BGIS.

Additional duties include working with all key BGIS departments to support integrated building operations.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • Inspect facilities to ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations. Create action plans and recommendations to resolve any issues related to fire life safety compliance (emergency lighting, fire extinguishers, fire doors/separations, fire alarm systems, etc.).
  • Inspect fire alarm systems and components as required by regulatory requirements for compliance and complete required repairs.
  • Analyse causes of fire alarms and trouble calls, follow up and communicate with stakeholders to provide solutions.
  • Communicate with building occupants and stakeholders to address or elevate their concerns.
  • Provide necessary support with the main client of the building and assist in the coordination of evacuation plans.
  • Assist the property management team and various stakeholders with fire and life safety support/training as required.
  • Actively participate in project requirement meetings and take responsibility for areas of expertise.
  • Other duties as required.
Knowledge & Skills
  • College diploma in Fire Protection or equivalent.
  • Completion of Canadian Fire Alarm Association (CFAA) certification.
  • Ability to communicate technical and non‑technical information clearly.
  • Job‑related experience considered at various levels.
  • Good knowledge of fire and life safety practices, related codes/regulations and authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to self‑start working individually and/or in teams.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze data.
  • Problem‑solving skills.
  • Fire Alarm Technician experience in commercial environments considered an asset.

This is a regular, full‑time position with an hourly salary range of $30.48 – $42.00 per annum. The starting salary will be based on the successful candidate’s competencies, including experience, education and performance related to this role.
