Job summary

Johnson Controls Canada is seeking an experienced Fire & Life Safety Technician to service, troubleshoot, and inspect fire alarm and life safety systems at customer sites. You will read blueprints and specifications, document work, and maintain high customer service standards.

The role includes on-call rotation, training others, and contributing to a safety-focused team environment. A CFAA certification and 2+ years of relevant experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of documented experience in low-voltage electrical systems, including Fire/Life Safety systems.
• Valid CFAA Certification.
• Experience performing inspections, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of fire alarm and life safety systems.
• Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, submittals, and operational/product manuals.
• Knowledge of test equipment, multi-meter, digital analyzer, and commissioning devices.
• Knowledge of applicable fire alarm codes, standards, and inspection requirements.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Receive service calls from the Service Resource Center and diagnose equipment/system issues.
• Service, troubleshoot, inspect, test, and verify Fire & Life Safety systems from various manufacturers at customer sites.
• Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, specs, and manuals.
• Exhibit strong customer service by communicating with district staff and customers to ensure satisfaction.
• Complete service and inspection documentation with proper coding.

What you will do:

• Receive service calls from the Service Resource Center, including a brief description of equipment/system malfunctions.
• Service, troubleshoot, inspect, test, and verify Fire & Life Safety systems from a variety of manufacturers, including SimplexGrinnell.
• Diagnose problems and perform service, repairs, testing, and inspections on electronic fire alarm systems and other related building system products at customer sites.
• Follow prescribed troubleshooting procedures and refer to technical manuals, part manuals, change notices, bulletins, and modification notices to service and inspect equipment.
• Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, software/systems, programs, schematics, and operational product manuals.
• Responsible for contacting customer representatives and ascertaining equipment/system issues and inspection requirements.
• Exhibit excellent customer service skills by consistently communicating with district staff and customers to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Complete service and inspection documentation with proper coding through communication devices such as smartphones and laptop computers.
• Obtain customer signatures upon completion of service or inspection assignments.
• Participate in a scheduled on-call rotation.
• Help train or mentor others on the service team.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What we look for:

• 2+ years of documented experience in low-voltage electrical systems, including Fire/Life Safety systems.
• Valid CFAA Certification.
• Experience performing inspections, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of fire alarm and life safety systems.
• Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, submittals, and operational/product manuals.
• Knowledge of test equipment, multi-meter, digital analyzer, and commissioning devices.
• Knowledge of applicable fire alarm codes, standards, and inspection requirements.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Moving equipment and tools up to 50-70 lbs.
• Class 5 Driver's License with a clean driving record.

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $28.4-$39.18 (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
