Job summary

Johnson Controls in Windsor, Ontario seeks a skilled Fire Alarm Technician to inspect, test and maintain life-safety systems across facilities. You will work with low-voltage wiring, document inspections, and perform repairs with limited supervision.

Requirements include reading blueprints, using a multimeter, and ability to lift up to 40 lbs with flexible hours including weekends; a high school diploma and basic computer skills are required.

Qualifications

  • Ability to perform physical labor up to 40 lbs and climb ladders.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections, testing, service, and preventative maintenance on fire alarm and life-safety systems.
  • Work with low voltage wiring and related devices.
  • Complete service acknowledgements with proper coding via laptops or paper.
  • Maintain inspection schedules and input documents.
  • Provide on-site repairs with minimal supervision and assist trainees.

What you will do: Technicians are responsible for performing routine inspections, testing, service, and preventative maintenance on Fire Alarm and life safety systems.

How you will do it: Work with low voltage wiring and associated devices for the operation of low voltage equipment. Complete Service Acknowledgements with proper coding through communication devices such as laptop computers and/or hard copy. Follow and maintain a highly structured inspection schedule. Input, retrieve and archive inspection documents via laptop computer. Make repairs with minimal supervision. Provide technical training to other inspectors and trainees. Complete assigned inspections on time.

What we are looking for: Required High School Diploma or equivalent required. Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, programs schematics and operational/product manuals. Experience with hand tools and multi-meter usage. Capable of performing physical labour to include carrying and moving equipment and tools up to 40 lbs. Able to work in unusual and sometimes difficult position such as climbing ladders, scaffolding and high lift equipment up to 40 feet, working within ducts, crawl spaces, above ceilings, etc. Ability to work flexible hours including weekends to meet customer requirements. Ability to adhere to, implement, and follow safety guidelines and procedures at all times. Demonstrates an aptitude for troubleshooting systems and performing necessary repairs. Demonstrate a high level of customer service. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Self-starter that can work with little to no supervision. Strong organizational skills, positive attitude, and an ability to learn quickly. Ability to pass a criminal background check, as well as alcohol and drug testing, as required by certain sites. Possess a valid driver’s license ( Full G) and driving record that meets company requirements.

Preferred CFAA Certificate Experience in Fire and /or Life Safety Systems industry. Proficiency with using PCs including working knowledge of MS Excel / Word as well as iPhone apps.

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $25.00 -$32.00 (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
