Job summary

Johnson Controls is hiring a Fire & Life Safety technician to service and inspect electronic systems at customer sites. You will diagnose problems, perform repairs and tests, and read blueprints and manuals to ensure proper installations.

The role requires handling customer communications, signing off on service tasks, and participating in on-call rotations while training and guiding other team members.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of documented experience in low-voltage electrical systems, including Fire/Life Safety.
• Valid CFAA Certification.
• Experience inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining fire alarm and life safety systems.
• Ability to read blueprints, submittals and manuals.

Responsibilities

• Receive service calls from the Service Resource Center.
• Service, troubleshoot, inspect, test, and verify Fire & Life Safety systems from various manufacturers.
• Diagnose problems and perform service, repairs, testing, and inspections on electronic fire alarm systems at customer sites.
• Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and manuals.
• Maintain customer communication to ensure satisfaction and obtain signatures.
• Participate in a scheduled on-call rotation.
• Mentor other team members as needed.

What you will do:

• Receive service calls from the Service Resource Center, including a brief description of equipment/system malfunctions.
• Service, troubleshoot, inspect, test, and verify Fire & Life Safety systems from a variety of manufacturers, including SimplexGrinnell.
• Diagnose problems and perform service, repairs, testing, and inspections on electronic fire alarm systems and other related building system products at customer sites.
• Follow prescribed troubleshooting procedures and refer to technical manuals, part manuals, change notices, bulletins, and modification notices to service and inspect equipment.
• Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, software/systems, programs, schematics, and operational product manuals.
• Responsible for contacting customer representatives and ascertaining equipment/system issues and inspection requirements.
• Exhibit excellent customer service skills by consistently communicating with district staff and customers to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Complete service and inspection documentation with proper coding through communication devices such as smartphones and laptop computers.
• Obtain customer signatures upon completion of service or inspection assignments.
• Participate in a scheduled on-call rotation.
• Help train or mentor others on the service team.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What we look for:

• 2+ years of documented experience in low-voltage electrical systems, including Fire/Life Safety systems.
• Valid CFAA Certification.
• Experience performing inspections, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of fire alarm and life safety systems.
• Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, submittals, and operational/product manuals.
• Knowledge of test equipment, multi-meter, digital analyzer, and commissioning devices.
• Knowledge of applicable fire alarm codes, standards, and inspection requirements.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Moving equipment and tools up to 50-70 lbs.
• Class 5 Driver's License with a clean driving record.

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $28.4-$39.18 (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience,knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with marketdata.)
