Job summary

Johnson Controls in Hamilton, Ontario is hiring an Inspector to perform routine inspections, testing, service, and preventative maintenance on Electrical, Sprinkler or Suppression life safety product lines. You will work with low-voltage wiring, input and archive inspection documents, and make minor repairs as needed.

Qualified applicants have CFAA certification, a High School Diploma or equivalent, and 5+ years in Fire Alarm inspection or service, plus the ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work

Qualifications

  • CFAA Certification.
  • HS diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 5+ years of documented Inspection or Service experience in Fire Alarm.
  • Experience reading blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, program schematics and manuals.
  • Experience with hand tools and multi-meter usage.
  • Aptitude for troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to access ladders, scaffolding and high lift equipment up to 40 feet.
  • Willing to work flexible hours including weekends.
  • Adhere to safety policies and procedures.
  • Able to obtain required licenses per codes.
  • Strong customer service and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and service Electrical, Sprinkler or Suppression life safety product lines.
  • Work with low-voltage wiring and related devices.
  • Complete Service Acknowledgements with proper coding.
  • Maintain a structured inspection schedule.
  • Input and archive inspection documents via laptop or paper.
  • Perform minor repairs and programming changes.
  • Provide technical training to less experienced inspectors.
  • Complete inspections on time.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

What you will do

Inspectors are responsible for conducting routine inspections, testing, service, and preventative maintenance on Electrical, Sprinkler or Suppression life safety product lines as well as similar competitive manufacturers’ product lines.

How you will do it
  • Work with low-voltage wiring and associated devices for the operation of low-voltage equipment.
  • Complete Service Acknowledgements with proper coding through communication devices such as laptop computers and/or hard copy.
  • Follow and maintain a highly structured inspection schedule.
  • Input, retrieve and archive inspection documents via laptop computer.
  • Make minor repairs and programming changes to systems being inspected.
  • Provide technical training to less senior inspectors and trainees.
  • Complete assigned inspections on time.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What we look for
Required
  • CFAA Certification.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of documented Inspection or Service experience in Fire Alarm.
  • Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, program schematics and operational/product manuals.
  • Experience with hand tools and multi-meter usage.
  • Demonstrates an aptitude for troubleshooting systems and performing necessary repairs.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Capable of performing physical labor to include carrying and moving equipment and tools up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to work in unusual and sometimes difficult position such as climbing ladders, scaffolding and high lift equipment up to 40 feet, crawl spaces, above ceilings, etc.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends to meet customer requirements.
  • Ability to adhere to, implement, and follow safety policy guidelines and procedures at all times.
  • Able to obtain and retain any licenses that are required by National, Provincial and Local codes.
  • Demonstrate a high level of customer service.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Self-starter that can work with little to no supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills, positive attitude, and an ability to learn quickly.

  • Familiarity with sprinklers, Fire Pumps, and Suppression Systems
Pay Range:

$25.25 -$33.59 hourly rate determined by the CBA/rate sheet. Benefits are provided through a local labor union aligned with a collective bargaining agreement. The posted salary range reflects the target compensation for this role. However, we recognize that exceptional candidates may bring unique skills and experiences that exceed the typical profile.
