Job summary

Johnson Controls in Dartmouth, NS, seeks an Inspector to perform routine inspections, testing, service, and preventative maintenance on Electrical, Sprinkler or Suppression life-safety product lines. You will work on low-voltage wiring and document work via laptops or paper records.

You will follow a structured inspection schedule, make minor repairs, provide training to junior inspectors, and complete inspections on time while upholding safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • CFAA Certification and high school diploma are required.
  • Experience reading blueprints, diagrams, submittals and manuals.
  • Experience with hand tools and multi-meter usage; strong troubleshooting ability.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine inspections, testing and preventive maintenance on life-safety products.
  • Work with low-voltage wiring and related devices for operation of equipment.
  • Complete service acknowledgements with proper coding via laptop or paper records.

What you will do
Inspectors are responsible for conducting routine inspections, testing, service, and preventative maintenance on Electrical, Sprinkler or Suppression life safety product lines as well as similar competitive manufacturers’ product lines.

How you will do it

  • Work with low-voltage wiring and associated devices for the operation of low-voltage equipment.

  • Complete Service Acknowledgements with proper coding through communication devices such as laptop computers and/or hard copy.

  • Follow and maintain a highly structured inspection schedule.

  • Input, retrieve and archive inspection documents via laptop computer.

  • Make minor repairs and programming changes to systems being inspected.

  • Provide technical training to less senior inspectors and trainees.

  • Complete assigned inspections on time.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What we look for

Required

  • CFAA Certification.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, program schematics and operational/product manuals.

  • Experience with hand tools and multi-meter usage.

  • Demonstrates an aptitude for troubleshooting systems and performing necessary repairs.

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

  • Capable of performing physical labor to include carrying and moving equipment and tools up to 50 lbs.

  • Able to work in unusual and sometimes difficult position such as climbing ladders, scaffolding and high lift equipment up to 40 feet, crawl spaces, above ceilings, etc.

  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends to meet customer requirements.

  • Ability to adhere to, implement, and follow safety policy guidelines and procedures at all times.

  • Able to obtain and retain any licenses that are required by National, Provincial and Local codes.

  • Demonstrate a high level of customer service.

  • Ability to work well with others.

  • Self-starter that can work with little to no supervision.

  • Strong organizational skills, positive attitude, and an ability to learn quickly.

Preferred

  • Special Hazards experience

  • CFAA Certification.

  • 2+ years of documented Inspection or Service experience in Fire Alarm.

  • Service background

  • Familiarity with sprinklers, Fire Pumps, and Suppression Systems

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $23.60- $31.25 (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with marketdata.)
