Job summary

Johnson Controls in Windsor, Ontario is seeking a field technician to perform inspections, testing, service, and preventive maintenance on Fire Alarm and life safety systems.

You will work with low voltage wiring, complete acknowledgements, and follow a strict inspection schedule while maintaining documentation and providing hands-on repairs as needed. A strong safety mindset and customer-focused approach are essential.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience reading blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, programs schematics and operational/product manuals.
  • Experience with hand tools and multi-meter usage.
  • Capable of performing physical labour up to 40 lbs.
  • Willing to work flexible hours including weekends to meet customer requirements.
  • Able to pass criminal background check and alcohol/drug testing as required by sites.
  • Valid driver’s license (Full G) and driving record meeting company requirements.

  • Provide technical training to other inspectors and trainees.
  • Complete assigned inspections on time.

What You Will Do

Technicians are responsible for performing routine inspections, testing, service, and preventative maintenance on Fire Alarm and life safety systems.

How You Will Do It
  • Work with low voltage wiring and associated devices for the operation of low voltage equipment.
  • Complete Service Acknowledgements with proper coding through communication devices such as laptop computers and/or hard copy.
  • Follow and maintain a highly structured inspection schedule.
  • Input, retrieve and archive inspection documents via laptop computer.
  • Make repairs with minimal supervision.
  • Provide technical training to other inspectors and trainees.
  • Complete assigned inspections on time.
Required
What we are looking for
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, programs schematics and operational/product manuals.
  • Experience with hand tools and multi-meter usage.
  • Capable of performing physical labour to include carrying and moving equipment and tools up to 40 lbs.
  • Able to work in unusual and sometimes difficult position such as climbing ladders, scaffolding and high lift equipment up to 40 feet, working within ducts, crawl spaces, above ceilings, etc.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends to meet customer requirements.
  • Ability to adhere to, implement, and follow safety guidelines and procedures at all times.
  • Demonstrates an aptitude for troubleshooting systems and performing necessary repairs.
  • Demonstrate a high level of customer service.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Self-starter that can work with little to no supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills, positive attitude, and an ability to learn quickly.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check, as well as alcohol and drug testing, as required by certain sites.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license ( Full G) and driving record that meets company requirements.
Preferred
  • CFAA Certificate
  • Experience in Fire and /or Life Safety Systems industry.
  • Proficiency with using PCs including working knowledge of MS Excel / Word as well as iPhone apps.

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $25.00 -$32.00 (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
