Job summary

Johnson Controls, Inc. in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, seeks an Inspector to perform routine inspections, testing, service and preventative maintenance on electrical, sprinkler and suppression life-safety lines.

You will work with low-voltage wiring, complete service acknowledgements, and maintain an organized inspection schedule. Strong problem-solving, safety focus, and communication skills are required; CFAA certification and a high school diploma are essential.

Qualifications

  • CFAA Certification is required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience reading blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specs and manuals.
  • Experience with hand tools and multi-meter usage.
  • Ability to troubleshoot systems and perform repairs.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Capable of physical labor up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to climb ladders, scaffolding, and high lift up to 40 feet.
  • Flexible hours including weekends.
  • Follow safety policies and procedures at all times.
  • Able to obtain and retain required licenses.
  • Strong customer service and teamwork skills.
  • Self-starter with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills and quick learning.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect electrical, sprinkler, or suppression life-safety lines and perform testing and maintenance.
  • Work with low-voltage wiring and related devices.
  • Complete Service Acknowledgements with proper coding via laptop or paper.
  • Follow a structured inspection schedule and update records.
  • Input, retrieve and archive inspection documents.
  • Make minor repairs and programming changes to systems.
  • Provide technical training to less senior inspectors.
  • Complete inspections on time and accurately.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What you will do
Inspectors are responsible for conducting routine inspections, testing, service, and preventative maintenance on Electrical, Sprinkler or Suppression life safety product lines as well as similar competitive manufacturers’ product lines.

How you will do it

  • Work with low-voltage wiring and associated devices for the operation of low-voltage equipment.

  • Complete Service Acknowledgements with proper coding through communication devices such as laptop computers and/or hard copy.

  • Follow and maintain a highly structured inspection schedule.

  • Input, retrieve and archive inspection documents via laptop computer.

  • Make minor repairs and programming changes to systems being inspected.

  • Provide technical training to less senior inspectors and trainees.

  • Complete assigned inspections on time.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What we look for
Required

  • CFAA Certification.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, program schematics and operational/product manuals.

  • Experience with hand tools and multi-meter usage.

  • Demonstrates an aptitude for troubleshooting systems and performing necessary repairs.

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

  • Capable of performing physical labor to include carrying and moving equipment and tools up to 50 lbs.

  • Able to work in unusual and sometimes difficult position such as climbing ladders, scaffolding and high lift equipment up to 40 feet, crawl spaces, above ceilings, etc.

  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends to meet customer requirements.

  • Ability to adhere to, implement, and follow safety policy guidelines and procedures at all times.

  • Able to obtain and retain any licenses that are required by National, Provincial and Local codes.

  • Demonstrate a high level of customer service.

  • Ability to work well with others.

  • Self-starter that can work with little to no supervision.

  • Strong organizational skills, positive attitude, and an ability to learn quickly.

Preferred

  • Special Hazards experience

  • CFAA Certification.

  • 2+ years of documented Inspection or Service experience in Fire Alarm.

  • Service background

  • Familiarity with sprinklers, Fire Pumps, and Suppression Systems

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $23.60- $31.25 (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with marketdata.)
