The Financial Reporting Analyst is responsible for preparing external financial statements in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), preparing, analyzing and managing the integrity of the financial information. Further, the role will manage financial and operational process flows and internal control processes in order to provide accurate, insightful and reliable information upon which management can make actionable operational and financial decisions. These responsibilities also extend to a group of related companies and international subsidiaries. Occasionally, this position will support the Controller, gaining exposure to day-to-day financial operations and leadership responsibilities with the accounting team.

About The Team

The Finance team at Safe Software plays a critical role in driving the company’s financial health and strategic growth. Led by the CFO, this team is involved in financial reporting and analysis, financial audits, internal control and process flows, in order to provide accurate and timely information to support key insights for business decision-making and long-term scalability. As a Financial Reporting Analyst, you will work cross-functionally with department heads across Sales, Customer Success, Marketing, Information Services, Human Resources and Facilities.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Reporting directly to the CFO with functional responsibilities to the Controller.
  • Prepare and analyze financial information for internal and external stakeholders, including, but not limited to, senior management, board directors and shareholders.
  • Prepare financial statements in accordance with IFRS
  • Responsible for communication with auditors throughout the year, management of the year-end audit and preparation of year-end financial information for auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS, provincial, national and international tax authorities and legal legislation.
  • Provide insight, and recommendations based upon preparation and analysis of financial information.
  • Support the Controller, and as necessary, assume the duties and responsibilities of the Controller,, with duties including, but not limited to, leading the accounting and sales order teams, day-to-day operational matters, assumption of monthly and quarterly regulatory filing requirements, banking duties and maintenance of integrated software systems impacting the financial information.
  • Conduct detailed financial analysis to identify trends, forecast future performance, and provide recommendations based on financial data.
  • Develop and maintain financial models to support decision-making.
  • Analyze results and provide key insights, while incorporating a baseline knowledge of corporate income tax.
  • Monitor and analyze industry trends and economic environment to assess impacts on business performance.
  • Analyze financial information for current and future reporting needs.
  • Expectation is that most of the duties and responsibilities will be completed during regular office hours, but there may be occasions requiring flexible hours during reporting periods or when managing tight deadlines.
  • Collaborate with team members across functional areas outside of the finance team to manage data process flows and to maintain or enhance the integrity of the financial information flows into the financial information system.
Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies

Safers come from a variety of backgrounds with diverse skills and knowledge. That being said, those who are most successful in this role have experience with the following:

Required skills:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration.
  • Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is required.

Experience:

  • Articled in a public accounting firm for a minimum of thirty months with audit experience.
  • Successfully completed CPA designation with a public accounting firm.
  • Strong knowledge and experience applying IFRS.
  • A minimum of 1-3 years of experience in a financial reporting or financial analyst role is desired.
  • Strong knowledge in financial and internal controls.
  • Exposure to and basic understanding of Canadian corporate income tax and application.
  • International tax exposure is desired but not essential.
Skills:
  • Advanced skills in financial reporting, tax compliance and analysis.
  • Proficiency with financial information systems and integrated software systems.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving,decision-making and communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare financial consolidations.
  • Present complex financial information in a clear, concise manner.
  • Analyze and recommend accounting and tax strategies based upon actionable insights.
  • Take ownership and accountability for completion of projects or assignments.
  • Maintain professionalism, objectivity, confidentiality and diplomacy.
  • A self-starter, exhibiting personal initiative and positive attitude.
  • Can work independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills to handle competing priorities and deadlines
