Qualifications

  • Typically 3–5 years of progressive experience in financial analysis, FP&A, financial reporting or related finance role.
  • CPA designation or active progression toward CPA is an asset.
  • Experience in events, entertainment, hospitality, sports, facilities or another complex environment is an asset.

Reporting to the Manager, Financial Operations, the Financial Analyst provides financial analysis, planning, reporting and business-partnering support across Regina Exhibition Association Limited (REAL). The position is responsible for analyzing profitability and business performance, maintaining forecasts and financial models, coordinating the corporate budgeting process, preparing management and external financial reporting, and supporting financial planning across REAL’s diverse operations. The role requires strong financial and accounting fundamentals and the ability to move comfortably between detailed transactional analysis and higher-level financial analysis, forecasting and business performance. The successful candidate will be comfortable independently working through complex and sometimes incomplete financial information, reconciling multiple data sources, identifying key financial drivers, and translating results into clear insights for management.

WHAT WILL YOU DO
1. Financial Analysis & Business Performance
  • Analyze revenue, expenses, margins and profitability across REAL’s events, facilities, programs and business activities.
  • Identify key financial and operational drivers affecting performance and explain changes in results.
  • Develop financial models, scenario analyses and business cases to support operational and strategic decisions.
  • Evaluate trends, risks and opportunities and provide recommendations to improve financial performance.
  • Partner with business leaders to improve understanding of financial results, business economics and key performance indicators.
  • Provide ad hoc financial analysis in support of management decisions, operational initiatives and special projects.
2. Forecasting, Budgeting & Financial Planning
  • Coordinate and administer the annual corporate budgeting process, including templates, timelines, roll-up of business unit submissions, review and follow-up with business units.
  • Develop and maintain operating forecasts and financial models based on financial and operational drivers, which may include cash flow forecasting, scenario analysis and other financial planning models.
  • Partner with business unit leaders to develop and challenge revenue, expense and operational assumptions.
  • Analyze forecast changes and identify financial and cash-flow risks and opportunities.
  • Perform scenario and sensitivity analysis to support planning and decision-making.
3. Financial Reporting & Business Partnering
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual management reporting and financial analysis.
  • Analyze actual results against budget, forecast and prior periods and investigate significant variances.
  • Prepare clear and concise variance explanations and management commentary.
  • Prepare and coordinate required financial reporting packages, ensuring information is accurate, complete and appropriately supported.
  • Develop and maintain financial and operational KPIs, dashboards and performance reporting.
  • Work with business leaders to understand results, address financial questions and identify actions arising from financial performance.
4. Event Settlements, Accounting & Reconciliations
  • Prepare and complete financial settlements for concerts, events and other commercial activities, including related journal entries and supporting documentation.
  • Reconcile settlement activity between operational systems, third-party reports and the general ledger and investigate unexplained differences.
  • Interpret fees, commissions, taxes, revenue-sharing arrangements and contractual terms as required to determine appropriate financial treatment.
  • Prepare selected journal entries, balance-sheet reconciliations and month-end working papers.
  • Maintain clear, accurate and audit-ready support for settlements, reconciliations and significant accounting entries.
  • Support month-end, quarter-end and year-end accounting and audit requirements as needed.
5.Data, Systems & Process Improvement
  • Use Excel, Power Query, business intelligence and other analytical tools to combine and analyze financial and operational data.
  • Improve and automate recurring reporting, forecasting, reconciliation and analytical processes while maintaining appropriate controls.
  • Identify opportunities to improve data quality, financial processes and reporting efficiency.
  • Leverage technology, analytics, automation and AI-assisted workflows to improve the efficiency and quality of financial analysis and reporting while maintaining appropriate review and controls.
6. Performs other duties and special projects defined and assigned by the Manager, Financial Operations as required.
Permanent Full Time position.
Weekly Schedule: Monday - Friday: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
WHAT IT TAKES
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related discipline. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Typically 3–5 years of progressive experience in financial analysis, FP&A, financial reporting, accounting or a related finance role. Candidates with a different level of experience who demonstrate the required capabilities may also be considered.
  • CPA designation or active progression toward a CPA designation is an asset.
  • Experience in events, entertainment, hospitality, sports, facilities or another operationally complex environment is an asset.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strong financial analysis, forecasting, budgeting and financial-modelling skills.
  • Strong fundamental accounting knowledge, including understanding of the income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statement, accrual accounting, working capital, journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Knowledge of applicable accounting standards and corporate financial reporting requirements is an asset.
  • Ability to understand the relationship between operating forecasts, balance-sheet movements and organizational cash flow.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze profitability and understand the operational drivers of financial performance.
  • Ability to independently investigate complex financial issues and reconcile information across multiple systems and data sources.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; Power Query and Power BI experience are preferred.
  • Strong analytical judgment, problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to translate complex financial information into clear conclusions and recommendations for financial and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and business-partnering skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and recurring deadlines with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to use technology, analytics and automation tools, including AI-assisted workflows, to improve financial processes, reporting and decision support.

  • As an Out-of-Scope role, hours may vary based on operational requirements and significant reporting, budgeting or event deadlines. Some additional hours may occasionally be required to meet critical financial reporting or operational deadlines.
  • Provide cross-training and coverage within the Financial Operations team as required.
