Job summary

Terra Remote Sensing, a Canadian geospatial services provider, seeks a Finance and Payroll Specialist to handle end-to-end payroll across multi-provincial and US operations, and support day-to-day accounting. This hybrid, full-time role collaborates with the Controller, HR, and leadership to ensure accurate payroll and robust financial reporting.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in payroll and accounting, advanced Excel and Power BI skills, and experience with ADP, Ceridian, or Rippling.

Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of combined experience in payroll and accounting.
• Pursuing or completion of CPA designation is preferred.
• Advanced MS Excel capabilities, Power BI for reporting and analysis and comfortable working with a variety of accounting systems and software.
• Experience with advanced payrolls/HRIS software systems like ADP, Ceridian, or Rippling is required.
• PCP designation is a preferred asset.
• This role requires strong written and verbal English communication skills to effectively collaborate with clients, vendors, and team members.
• A proven ability to identify issues and make recommendations to course correct.
• Able to manage competing deadlines in a demanding environment.
• Quick to learn new systems and processes, with an openness to feedback and direct communication.
• Experience with multi-provincial and/or U.S. payroll is preferred.
• Proven experience with ways to automate processes that benefit the business, employees, save time and money.
• A keen ability for reporting and analyzing information.

Responsibilities

• Payroll processing across multiple provinces and states for salaried and hourly employees.
• Manage payroll changes related to compensation updates, new hires, terminations and ROEs.
• Audit timecards for completeness and manager approvals prior to payroll close.
• Monitor overtime calculations and labour costs, provide insights to management.
• Ensure benefits premiums and other deductions are correct.
• Process off-cycle runs and termination payments in compliance with Employment Standards Act or state regulations.
• Process payroll reimbursements and staff expenses.
• Suggest efficiencies in accounting workflows to maximize productivity.
• Audit and reconcile payroll liability accounts to GL and produce payroll journals.
• Ensure remittances and payroll taxes are processed to meet deadlines.
• Lead the annual T4 preparation process, reconciling boxes against payroll registers.
