Job summary

Fort William First Nation is seeking a Finance Officer for a full-time, permanent position in Ontario. Under the Accounting Manager, you will handle internal controls, GL administration, and audit work papers.

The role requires a accounting degree or diploma, 3+ years accounting experience, and proficiency with Microsoft Office; knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics is an asset. CPA enrollment is encouraged and bondability with CRC is required.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in accounting required, CPA study encouraged.
  • Experience in First Nations management is preferred.
  • Ability to work in a team in a fast-paced environment; problem-solving with supervision.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High level of experience with financial software (Microsoft Dynamics is an asset).
  • Must be bondable and pass a Criminal Reference Check.

Responsibilities

  • Process and verify financial transactions in accordance with GAAP and internal policies.
  • Complete weekly Accounts Payable cycle and meet deadlines.
  • Set up and maintain vendor accounts with current data.
  • Monitor and enforce financial policies; assist with budgeting, forecasting and project tracking.
  • Collaborate with Accounting Manager and Finance staff to ensure consistency.
  • Mentor Finance Clerks to strengthen internal capacity.
  • Collate information for reports and remittances to funding/government agencies.
  • Prepare account reconciliations and journal entries.
  • Assist with audits and prepare audit working papers.
  • Attend meetings as required.
