Qualifications

Location - Vaughan, ON

  • Conduct on-site Asphalt sampling using the Quarter Master method, proper labelling, and delivery of paving materials such as loose mix asphalt, tack coat, PGAC, and granular materials for quality control and assurance testing.
  • Possess working knowledge of MTO policies, standards, specifications, and sample lot system, including bagging and tagging per MTO standards.
  • Check asphalt mat compaction with Nuclear Densometer, perform aggregate sampling, and conduct compaction tests as per MTO standards.
  • Carry out coring on freshly paved asphalt, bag and tag samples as per MTO specs, and transport to labs. Conduct on-site concrete testing for temperature, air, slump, and cast cylinders for strength testing following OPSS and CCIL standards.
  • Monitor paving operations, verify material placement, tack coat application, temperature, lift thickness, and surface quality. Report concerns to the client on-site.
  • Work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, complete various tasks within deadlines, and compile/submission of field forms and reports.
  • Liaise with team members, subcontractors, clients, and agencies. Train staff on sampling and testing procedures.

The ideal candidate

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • At least 3 years' experience on MTO and municipal projects. Must hold CCIL/CSA or equivalent concrete testing certification. OACETT certification as a C.E.T or Road Construction Inspector is a plus.
  • Experience reading CGS and MTO drawings and specs.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills. Flexibility to work weekends, nights, and travel for projects. Proficiency in MS Office.
