Job summary

Leavitt Machinery in Brampton, Ontario is seeking a mechanically-inclined Field Technician to join our Service team. You will diagnose, repair, and perform routine maintenance on material handling equipment and heavy machinery at customer sites, with travel within the region.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of repair experience, a valid Red Seal or Journeyperson ticket, strong hydraulics knowledge, and excellent communication skills. This onsite role offers competitive pay and benefits.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of heavy equipment or automotive repair experience.
• Provincial Heavy Duty or Automotive Journeyperson’s ticket or a Red Seal trade certification.
• Experience with hydraulics and diagnosing and servicing electric engines is a strong asset.
• Aerial platform and lift truck experience is an asset.
• Strong communication skills with customers and internal teams.
• Excellent problem-solving and technical aptitude.
• High school diploma is required.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to customer sites in the region.

Responsibilities

• Diagnosing, repairing, and completing routine maintenance and safety inspections on material handling equipment and machinery.
• Maintain communication with the Service Dispatcher about ongoing jobs and complete tasks timely.
• Discuss service job details with customers and confirm repair scope.
• Coordinate with Parts to order and prepare parts before site visits.
• Maintain proper documentation including work orders and warranty paperwork.
• Report safety incidents promptly and adhere to safety policies.

The Opportunity

Leavitt Machinery is looking for a mechanically-inclined Field Technician (Heavy Equipment or Automotive Mechanic) to join our Service team in Brampton, Ontario. Reporting to the Service Manager, the Field Technician will be assigned to a variety of machinery repair tasks required by our loyal customers.

As a Field Technician your key responsibilities will include:

• Diagnosing, repairing, and completing routine maintenance and safety inspections on a variety of material handling equipment and machinery
• Maintaining effective and consistent communication with the Service Dispatcher regarding ongoing Service jobs, and completing assigned tasks in a timely manner
• Discussing Service job details with customers and communicating a clear understanding of the job scope and repair requirements
• Communicating with the Parts department via phone and email to ensure required parts are ordered, and preparing required parts before visiting job sites
• Maintaining proper documentation where needed, including work order forms and warranty paperwork
• Reporting any safety incidents promptly and adhering to all safety policies

Required Skills & Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills, knowledge, and competencies:

• At least 5 years of heavy equipment or automotive repair experience in a related industry
• Provincial Heavy Duty or Automotive Journeyperson’s ticket or a Relevant Red Seal Trade Certification
• Experience with hydraulics and diagnosing and servicing electric engines is a strong asset
• Previous aerial platform and lift truck experience is an asset
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to partner effectively with external customers and internal stakeholders
• Excellent problem-solving skills and strong aptitude for learning and applying mechanical and technical concepts
• Strong work ethic and a positive attitude
• High school diploma
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to customer sites in the region

The base pay range for this role is: $40.50 to $45.90 per hour, depending on experience.

This is an onsite role based in Brampton, Ontario.
