Position Summary

The Power Systems Technician is expected to perform service, test, and maintain various types of power distribution equipment. This entry-level position assists Techs with measurements, equipment setup, removal, site setup, and site cleanup as part of on-the-job learning.

Responsibilities

1. Inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up, and collect data on low, medium, and high voltage (up to 500kV) electrical systems.
2. Calibrate and test MCC’s, breakers, and relays, including electro-mechanical and solid-state relays.
3. Test high and medium voltage switchgear and circuit breakers; rotate emergency on-call duty and respond to customer emergencies promptly.
4. Maintain, test, and repair transformers (45 KVA to 130 MVA, dry and oil-filled).
5. Perform maintenance and testing on low and medium voltage circuit breakers (up to 15 KV).
6. Inspect low and medium voltage cable installations.
7. Start-up, troubleshoot, and repair generator controls and transfer schemes.
8. Ensure all work complies with regulatory laws.
9. Work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays; be available for out-of-town work.
10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Experience and Qualifications

1. Degree or Diploma with at least 1 year of relevant experience.
2. Knowledge of industry safety standards.
3. Experience with MCC’s, breakers, relay testing, oil testing, infrared scanning, and switchgear start-up up to 500kV preferred.
4. Ability to work safely and follow electrical safety procedures.
5. Strong theoretical understanding of electricity and problem-solving skills.
6. Effective verbal and written communication skills.
7. Dependability, good judgment, and organizational skills.
8. Customer service orientation, time management, and follow-up skills.
9. Ability to work effectively with customers, peers, and management.
10. Proficiency with Windows and Microsoft Office; internet research skills.
11. Valid driver’s license required if using a company vehicle.

Additional Information

• Travel up to 50%, possibly more.
• Physical demands include lifting up to 50 lbs, crawling, climbing, standing for long periods, and working in non-ideal conditions.
