Job summary

Thompson Construction Group is seeking a Field Surveyor to support heavy civil, earthworks, mining, and infrastructure projects in the Fort McMurray area. You will perform daily site layout, stake coordinates, and topographic field pickups, collaborating with project managers and field superintendents.

The role requires experience with GPS-based layout, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Trimble/TOPCON tools, plus a valid Class 5 license and strong organizational skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in GPS-based construction layout (Trimble or TOPCON).
• Proficient in reading DTM surfaces, DXF files and data collectors.
• Staking for roads, pads, and ponds understanding.
• Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center or Terramodel is required.
• Strong multitasking, time management and organizational skills.
• Diploma in Geomatic or Civil Engineering Technology is an asset.

Responsibilities:

• Perform daily site layout and staking in line with project design.
• Complete topographic field pickups.
• Support and troubleshoot survey layout and GPS machine control (Trimble/TOPCON).
• Collaborate with project managers and field superintendents.
• Accurately record and document survey data.

Qualifications:

• Energy Safety Canada Common Safety Orientation (CSO) Certification.
• Ground Disturbance, H2S Alive and First Aid is considered an asset.
• Must be physically fit and able to pass a pre-access drug and alcohol test.
