Job summary

Herc Rentals is seeking a Journeyman Off-Road Field Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanic for our Fort McMurray operations. You will perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and field repairs to keep our fleet on the move.

You will work a 7 on / 7 off schedule, camp provided, with flights from Edmonton or Calgary. Diesel, hydraulics, electrical systems, and safety are at the core of your daily tasks. Strong customer service and documentation skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Must hold Journeyman Mechanic (Off Road) or Red Seal in HET.
• Able to work 7 on, 7 off with camp provided.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience with aerial equipment.
• Valid Class 5 license; clean driving record.
• Drug and alcohol screening required; site safety rules apply.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance on heavy and construction equipment at various sites.
• Repair heavy equipment to maintain operability on job sites.
• Disassemble engines and reassemble after inspection.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot fuel, electrical, hydraulic, and propane systems.
• Conduct oil changes, lubrication, tire replacements, and related services.
• Replace worn parts and recondition equipment components.
• Operate and test equipment such as boom lifts, forklifts, generators, and pumps.
• Create detailed service reports and repair logs.

Job Purpose

Become our next Journeyman Off-Road Field Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanic. You will be the backbone of our fleet; performing preventative maintenance, advanced diagnostics, and field repairs to ensure equipment never misses a beat. What you will do

• Follow a consistent and regular schedule to perform various types of maintenance on heavy equipment, construction equipment and various pieces of machinery at various job sites
• Repair assorted heavy equipment as required to ensure proper operating condition at the job site
• Disassembles engines and reassembles after a thorough examination
• Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot fuel systems, electrical systems, hydraulic systems and propane systems
• Conduct oil changes, lubrication of equipment, tire replacements, hose repairs, battery replacements and assorted services
• Recondition and replace assorted parts of the heavy equipment
• Must be able to operate and test equipment such as boom lifts, forklifts, compressors, portable and stationary generators, hydraulics, pumps and assorted tools and equipment
• Diagnoses problem areas for any significant wear or tear on the equipment
• Maintain work area in a clean and organized manner
• Produce timely and detailed service reports and repair logs
• Follow all company’s filed procedures and protocols
• Build positive relationships with customers
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Requirements

• Must have Journeyman Mechanic (Off Road) Certificate or Red Seal in HET.
• Able to work 7 on, 7 off.
• Camp is provided along with flights out of Edmonton or Calgary only.
• At least 3-years’ hands on experience working on Aerial Equipment
• Valid Class 5 license.
• A clean and recent driver’s abstract will be required.
• All employment is contingent on successful completion of drug and alcohol screening.
• According to site regulations, all candidates must be clean shaven.

Schedule and Compensation

• Rate: $58.93/hr union rate. When you work in the field, there is an additional $1.50/hour field premium.
  • *This rate is for candidates who hold their Journeyman HET off Road Ticket*
• Pension: $4.00 per hour (company-paid) with eventual increase to $6.00/hr.
• Schedule: 7 days on / 7 days off
• Shift: 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM
• Hours: 11.5 hours per day at regular time
• Overtime: Paid after 11.5 hours/day or beyond the 7-day rotation
• Flight days: Monday. Start work Tuesday. Fly home after work on Monday. You do not get paid for travel.
