Job summary

Herc Rentals is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to lead occupational health initiatives across our GTA branches. The role collaborates with risk, safety, and HR teams to proactively manage workers’ compensation, injuries, and return‑to‑work programs.

You will support mental health initiatives, coordinate clinical care, and travel between GTA locations from the Etobicoke base 2–3 days per week. Competitive benefits accompany a comprehensive compensation package.

Qualifications

  • Experience in occupational health, workers’ compensation, or employee wellness is a plus.
  • Ability to travel between branches in the GTA.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Risk Department and Workers’ Compensation Boards to manage claims and injuries.
  • Develop and implement health and safety initiatives with the Safety Department.
  • Coordinate intake of initial injury reports and arrange healthcare services for incidents.
  • Serve as field-based clinical resource for health-related incidents and injury management.
  • Assess injuries and provide guidance on injury management and claims processes.
  • Support Return to Work (RTW) program with HR and managers.
  • Provide intervention and crisis support focusing on mental health and wellbeing.
  • Coordinate with external medical providers for care continuity.
  • Maintain thorough documentation for cases and communications.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and staff training on safety.

Job Purpose

The Herc Rentals Occupational Health Nurse strengthens our field medical support and employee health initiatives. This role will be instrumental in collaborating with our Risk Department to proactively manage claims, workers’ compensation, workplace injuries, OSHA recordables, and overall employee health including mental health.

What you will do...
  • Collaborate closely with the Risk Department and Workers’ Compensation Boards to effectively manage and mitigate workers’ compensation claims, recordables, and other workplace injuries.
  • Work alongside the Safety Department in the development and implementation of health and safety initiatives, policies, and best practices to safeguard workers, prevent injuries, and promote workplace wellbeing.
  • Provide intake of initial injury reports and coordinate timely and appropriate healthcare services for occupational incidents.
  • Serve as a field-based clinical resource, supporting employees and management regarding health-related incidents, claims, and injury management.
  • Assess work-related injuries and provide expert guidance to employees and managers on injury management and claims processes.
  • Evaluate and interpret employees' medical and occupational history, subjective complaints, and physical examination findings to inform care and workplace decisions.
  • Support and act as a liaison for the company's Return to Work (RTW) Program, collaborating with HR, branch managers, and other departments on RTW notes and restrictions.
  • Provide intervention, EAP coordination, and crisis support for employee health concerns, with particular attention to mental health and well‑being.
  • Act as a liaison between field operations, risk management, and external medical providers to ensure seamless communication and care coordination.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation for all cases, interventions, and communications.
  • Support compliance with regulatory requirements to ensure organizational adherence to legal standards.
  • Participate in training and education initiatives for field staff on health, safety, and injury prevention, fostering a culture of safety and wellness.
Skills
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills; able to work effectively with cross‑functional teams.
  • Ability to travel to field locations as needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
Requirements
  • You must be a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Experience in occupational health, workers’ compensation, or employee wellness programs is a plus.
  • Ability to travel between branches in the GTA.
  • Must work out of Etobicoke branch 2‑3 times per week.
  • Ability to be on‑call.
  • Valid G driver’s license. A recent abstract will be required.
Experience Required
  • Minimum 3‑5 years of occupational health nursing experience.
  • Experience supporting employees within a corporate, industrial, transportation, manufacturing, construction, or other safety‑sensitive environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing workplace injuries from intake through return to work.
  • Experience working directly with Workers’ Compensation Boards (WSIB/WCB) and occupational injury claims.
  • Experience developing and managing return‑to‑work and modified duty programs.
  • Experience conducting clinical assessments and providing recommendations via telephone and virtual platforms.
  • Experience supporting mental health and substance‑related workplace cases.
  • Strong case management and disability management experience.

Type: Headcount Increase

Pay Range:$105,000 - $120,000 per year
