Job summary

Herc Rentals in Canada is seeking a Field Equipment Mechanic to service generators, light towers, scissor/boom lifts and telehandlers at customer sites. This full-time role suits a mechanically inclined professional who thrives independently and values safety and quality workmanship.

You will follow a fixed 7-on, 7-off schedule with 12-hour days and a generous living allowance until camp housing is available. Strong heavy equipment experience and a valid Class 5 license are required.

Qualifications

• Journeyman Mechanic (Off Road) certificate or Red Seal in HET.
• Ability to pass a Federal Criminal Background Check.
• At least 3 years’ hands-on experience on aerial equipment and generators.
• Valid Class 5 license with clean driving record.
• Drug and alcohol screening required.
• Site regulations require cleanliness and safety compliance.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on heavy equipment at client sites.
• Repair equipment to ensure proper operation on the job site.
• Disassemble engines and reassemble after inspection.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot fuel, electrical, hydraulic, and propane systems.
• Conduct oil changes, lubrication, tire and hose work, and battery service.
• Replace parts and recondition equipment as needed.
• Operate and test equipment such as boom lifts, forklifts, generators, hydraulics.
• Maintain tidy work area and complete detailed service logs.
• Build positive relationships with customers.

Job Purpose

We are currently seeking a Field Equipment Mechanic to support the maintenance and repair of equipment such as Generators, Light Towers, Scissor Lifts, Boom Lifts and Telehandlers at a customer site. This is a full-time position for a mechanically inclined professional who thrives working independently, takes pride in quality workmanship, and enjoys solving problems in a remote environment.

• Follow a consistent and regular schedule to perform various types of maintenance on heavy equipment, construction equipment and various pieces of machinery at various job sites
• Repair assorted heavy equipment as required to ensure proper operating condition at the job site
• Disassembles engines and reassembles after a thorough examination
• Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot fuel systems, electrical systems, hydraulic systems and propane systems
• Conduct oil changes, lubrication of equipment, tire replacements, hose repairs, battery replacements and assorted services
• Recondition and replace assorted parts of the heavy equipment
• Must be able to operate and test equipment such as boom lifts, forklifts, compressors, portable and stationary generators, hydraulics, pumps and assorted tools and equipment
• Diagnoses problem areas for any significant wear or tear on the equipment
• Maintain work area in a clean and organized manner
• Produce timely and detailed service reports and repair logs
• Follow all company’s filed procedures and protocols
• Build positive relationships with customers

Requirements

• Must have Journeyman Mechanic (Off Road) Certificate or Red Seal in HET.
• Ability to pass a Federal Criminal Background Check
• At least 3-years’ hands on experience working on Aerial Equipment and Generators.
• Valid Class 5 license.
• A clean and recent driver’s abstract will be required.
• All employment is contingent on successful completion of drug and alcohol screening.
• According to site regulations, all candidates must be clean shaven.

Schedule and Compensation

• $60-62 per hour
• $1,500/month living allowance provided until camp accommodation becomes available, at which time the allowance will cease.
• 7 Days On / 7 Days Off rotation
• 12 hours per day
• 84 hours per rotation
• Overtime is only calculated once you work past your 7 days or more than 12 hours in a day.
