Job summary

Baker Hughes is seeking a Field Engineer I to support our Upstream Chemicals and Fluids Separation initiatives in the Calgary area. You will work directly with customers, troubleshoot field programs, and help implement new chemical technologies to improve production performance.

You will gain hands-on experience through the LEAD Development Program, developing technical, commercial, and leadership skills while collaborating with senior engineers and cross-functional teams on real operations.

Qualifications

  • Recent degree in Engineering or Science, preferably Chemical or Petroleum Engineering.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Comfort in field environments and remote locations.
  • Hands-on experience from co-ops, internships, lab work or field assignments.
  • Strong communication and teamwork across functions.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot chemical programs and production facilities to improve system performance.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize production systems through chemical and process improvements.
  • Plan, execute, and evaluate field trials for new chemical technologies.
  • Support deployment and scale-up of solutions across customer assets.

As a Field Engineer I, you will gain hands‑on experience supporting our Fluids Separation business while working directly with customers to solve real production challenges. As part of Baker Hughes' LEAD Development Program, you will develop the technical, commercial, and leadership skills required for a successful engineering career through structured learning, field exposure, and cross‑functional collaboration. This role provides a unique opportunity to build technical expertise, contribute to innovative solutions, and see the direct impact of your work on customer operations and production performance.

As a Field Engineer I, you will be responsible for:
  • Supporting field operations by troubleshooting chemical programs and production facilities to improve system performance.
  • Identifying opportunities to optimize production systems through operational, chemical, and process improvements.
  • Planning, executing, and evaluating field trials for new chemical technologies in real operating environments.
  • Supporting the deployment and scale‑up of successful solutions across customer assets.
  • Working directly with customers to communicate technical findings, recommendations, and performance results.
  • Building long‑term customer relationships through technical support and service excellence.
  • Developing expertise in fluids separation technologies under the mentorship of experienced Subject Matter Experts.
  • Gaining exposure to multiple Upstream Chemicals product lines, including Flow Assurance, Production Optimization, and Integrity Management.
  • Supporting internal knowledge‑sharing initiatives and customer training activities.
  • Participating in the LEAD Development Program to build technical, business, leadership, and customer engagement capabilities.
  • Maintaining a strong commitment to safety, quality, compliance, and execution excellence in all field activities.

  • Have a recent degree in Engineering or Science, preferably in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrate strong problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills.
  • Be comfortable working in field environments and remote operating locations.
  • Have hands‑on experience gained through co‑op placements, internships, laboratory work, operations, or field‑based assignments.
  • Possess strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across functions.
