The Municipality of Leamington invites applications for a Facility Attendant at the Nature Fresh Farms Recreation Centre. Reporting to the Facility Supervisor, you will keep the facility clean, safe, and well-maintained, handle pool and ice duties, and support events and bookings to meet user needs.

  • Ability to obtain Certified Pool Operator within timeframe.
  • Working at Heights certification required or pursued.
  • Zamboni operation certification or municipal-approved training is an asset.
  • Basic First Aid/CPR-C with AED certification is preferred.
  • Strong communication, customer service, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Refrigeration or ORFA refrigeration course experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide courteous, professional customer service and maintain positive interactions with patrons.
  • Maintain a clean, safe facility through daily cleaning of all areas.
  • Conduct routine inspections and identify, report, and address facility deficiencies, hazards, and maintenance requirements in a timely manner.
  • Complete assigned daily, weekly, and monthly inspection checklists, maintenance records, work orders, and operational logs.
  • Operate, inspect, clean, maintain, and properly store maintenance equipment, tools, machinery, and supplies in accordance with training, manufacturer instructions, and municipal procedures.
  • Perform seasonal exterior maintenance, including snow and ice removal from primary walkways, entrances, and emergency exits during winter months.
  • Assist with special events and facility bookings, including setup, relocation, and takedown of tables, chairs, sports equipment, and other required furnishings or equipment.
  • Perform grounds maintenance duties, including litter and debris removal, garbage collection, weeding, and occasional tree and shrub trimming.
  • Perform pool maintenance duties, including water testing, chemical readings and additions, filter backwashing, recordkeeping, and pool logbook updates, in accordance with applicable legislation, standards, procedures, and training.
  • Perform ice maintenance duties, including flooding, ice repair, and other related tasks to maintain safe and high-quality ice conditions for patrons.
  • Perform janitorial duties as assigned by the Facility Supervisor or designate.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies, incidents, and customer concerns, and participate in all applicable emergency response and safety procedures.
  • Maintain a safe working environment for patrons, employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Comply with applicable provincial and municipal legislation, including the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, as well as the Municipality’s Records and Information Management Program.
  • Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, applicable regulations, and the Municipality’s Health and Safety Program.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Facility Supervisor, the Facility Attendant supports the safe, clean, efficient, and customer-focused operation of the Nature Fresh Farms Recreation Centre. Responsibilities include facility cleaning and maintenance; operating, caring for, and safely storing equipment; pool and ice maintenance; event setup; and grounds maintenance. The Facility Attendant will ensure equipment is appropriately placed, set up, and relocated to meet operational and client needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide courteous, professional customer service and maintain positive interactions with patrons, user groups, staff, and members of the public.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming facility through daily cleaning and maintenance of all areas, including floors, locker rooms, washrooms, public areas, garbage receptacles, equipment, and other assigned spaces.
  • Conduct routine inspections and identify, report, and address facility deficiencies, hazards, and maintenance requirements in a timely manner.
  • Complete assigned daily, weekly, and monthly inspection checklists, maintenance records, work orders, and operational logs.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:
  • Must have a secondary school diploma or equivalent certificate (GED).
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class ‘G’ Driver’s Licence as a condition of employment.
  • Previous janitorial or facility-cleaning experience is required.
  • Ability and willingness to obtain the following certifications within a timeframe established by the Municipality:
  • Certified Pool Operator;
  • Working at Heights;
  • Zamboni operation certification or municipal-approved training.
  • Basic First Aid/CPR-C with AED certification.
  • Strong communication, customer service, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, multi-use recreation facility.
  • Ability to safely perform physically demanding work, including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, walking, bending, and working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Refrigeration experience is an asset.
  • Experience working in a multi-purpose recreation facility is an asset.
  • Successful completion of the Ontario Recreation Facilities Association (ORFA) Basic Arena Refrigeration Course is an asset.
Hours of Work and Working Conditions:

40 hours per week. Evening and weekend shifts are a requirement of the position.
