Job description

Join the Housing Facilities team as a Facilities Technician III! We are seeking energetic and skilled candidates to provide repair and maintenance of all mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and refrigeration systems serving residents and guests in University Housing.

Work with a dedicated team focused on excellent customer service, with no sales component. The position involves daytime hours with flexible start times, and may include rotating weekends or on-call shifts with standby and callback compensation.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  1. Basic knowledge of building mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems related to HVAC systems.
  2. A mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn.
  3. Knowledge of mechanical maintenance practices and occupational safety.
  4. Ability to read and use mechanical and electronic thermometers, multi-meters, pressure gauges.
  5. Basic understanding of electrical and plumbing systems.
  6. Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and perform basic repairs on electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
  7. Experience with computerized work order systems.
  8. Knowledge of maintenance and repair of appliances and equipment used in food prep, laundry, and kitchens.
  9. Organizational skills for prioritizing and documenting work.
  10. A desire to serve residents, staff, and guests.
  11. Good communication and interpersonal skills, with strong time management.

Responsibilities include inspecting, maintaining, and repairing equipment and facilities, assisting with construction and design, and ensuring property standards.

Tasks involve using specialized equipment, conducting inspections, troubleshooting issues, managing deliveries, assisting trades and vendors, vehicle maintenance, supporting resident move-in/out, leading projects, managing records, and providing after-hours coverage.

Preferred education: High School Diploma.

Required qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of commercial maintenance experience.
  • Experience or training in HVAC systems.
  • Experience with testing and monitoring systems for efficiency.

Preferred qualifications include more than 2 years of experience, related experience in large environments, on-call experience, relevant degrees or certifications, and safety training.

Required license: Valid driver's license meeting UW standards.

Work schedule: Typically Monday-Friday, 7:00 am - 6:00 pm, with on-call or weekend rotation.

Full-time, onsite position with ongoing/renewable appointment.

Salary starts at $25/hour, depending on qualifications, with benefits.
