Job Description

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent (college, CEGEP, or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 3 months to less than 1 year) and 1 to 2 years of experience. The candidate must be comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and underground.

Tasks

1. Inspect and test cable signals and associated equipment
2. Inspect trunking systems
3. Diagnose and locate equipment faults, and adjust, replace or repair telecommunications equipment
4. Inspect operation of telecommunications equipment
5. Install, arrange, remove, and maintain telephone equipment, wiring, and associated hardware
6. Test installed telephone systems to locate transmission faults
7. Analyze test results and adjust, change, or repair switching systems, networks, associated equipment, and software
8. Complete and maintain test and service reports
9. Determine the nature, cause, and location of trouble
10. Install electromechanical, analog, and digital trunking systems, circuits, and equipment in telecommunications central offices and switching centres
11. Operate computerized testing systems to conduct service tests on customer lines and equipment
12. Climb and work aloft on poles, ladders, or support structures
13. Connect, disconnect, and relocate cable outlets
14. Determine work assignments
15. Install cable modems and software for Internet access
16. Maintain and repair aerial and underground transmission systems
17. Repair or replace faulty cables, power supplies, and amplifiers
