Job summary

Cornerstone Co-op is seeking a Facilities Supervisor to oversee maintenance and building systems in Vermilion, AB, with responsibilities across multiple locations. The role reports to the Facilities Manager and involves coordinating preventative maintenance, contractor activities, and budgeting while ensuring safety and compliance.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of hands-on maintenance experience in commercial or industrial settings, a trade certificate, and a valid Class 5 license.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years hands-on general maintenance experience in a commercial, retail, or industrial setting.
• Knowledge of electrical, refrigeration, plumbing, heating, and building systems.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a satisfactory 5-year abstract.
• Able to pass a pre-employment substance test.
• Able to regularly lift up to 100 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Support Facilities Manager with day-to-day maintenance and operation of facilities (HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, electrical, building systems).
• Coordinate preventative maintenance, inspections, repairs, and improvement projects with action plans.
• Coordinate external contractors and vendors; obtain quotes, negotiate contracts, monitor work quality, ensure third‑party compliance.
• Assist with facilities planning and budgeting; monitor expenses and annual work plan.
• Process and code work orders and invoices using Limble CMMS; ensure accurate documentation.
• Coordinate vehicle repairs, seasonal maintenance, and snow/lawn care; respond to after-hours needs.
• Support event setup and takedown at all Cornerstone locations.
• Promote safety procedures and emergency protocols; align with Cornerstone’s values and brand.

Job description

Cornerstone Co-op invites applications for the position of Facilities Supervisor to join our team full-time in Vermilion, AB. Reporting to the Facilities Manager. This position will provide support and will require travel to all Cornerstone Co-op locations (St. Paul, Elk Point, Vermilion, Wainwright, Mannville, Dewberry, Provost & Two Hills).

What you’ll do:

• Support the Facilities Manager with the day-to-day maintenance and operation of Cornerstone Co-op facilities, including HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, electrical and general building systems.
• Coordinate preventative maintenance, inspections, repairs, and improvement projects, including developing action plans to address identified issues.
• Coordinate external contractors and vendors, including obtaining quotes, sourcing materials, negotiating contracts, monitoring work quality, and managing third‑party compliance requirements such as elevators and fire systems.
• Assist with facilities planning and budgeting by monitoring expenses, supporting the annual work plan, and identifying required repairs, replacements, and improvements.
• Process and code work orders and invoices using the Limble CMMS system, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
• Coordinate vehicle repairs, inspections, and seasonal preparations, as well as seasonal facility maintenance such as snow removal and lawn care.
• Respond to after‑hours maintenance needs.
• Support event setup and takedown at all Cornerstone locations.
• Promote and follow Cornerstone Co‑op’s safety procedures, and emergency protocols while ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently.
• Demonstrate behaviours and actions that align with and strengthen the Co‑operative’s purpose statement, values, brand and focus on safety.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Who you are:

• You have 3-5 years of hands‑on general maintenance experience in a commercial, retail, or industrial environment, with knowledge of electrical, refrigeration, plumbing, heating, and building systems.
• A related trade certificate or experience is considered an asset.
• You have a valid Class 5 driver’s license and can provide a satisfactory 5-year standard driver’s abstract.
• You are able to successfully complete a pre‑employment substance test.
• You are able to regularly lift, carry, push, and pull items weighing up to 100 lbs.
• You have strong computer skills and experience using a CMMS (computerized Maintenance Management System) would be considered an asset.
• You understand workplace safety, emergency procedures, and the importance of maintaining a food‑safe environment.
• You build positive relationships with contractors, vendors, team members and internal partners and you value collaboration and different perspectives.
• You are a strong troubleshooter who can work independently, identify maintenance issues, and determine practical solutions.
