Job description

Our client, a major oil and gas producer, is seeking a Facilities Engineer for their field office in Fort McMurray, AB. This contract position follows a 4/3 schedule, with flights provided from Edmonton or Calgary, or shuttle services for local candidates.

Responsibilities:
  1. Communicate regularly with your Business Unit Team to determine engineering support needs.
  2. Understand the status of projects in your value stream and work with the Small Projects Coordinator to prioritize Engineering Work Orders (WOs).
  3. Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering during project scoping to ensure clear scope justifications for Engineering WOs.
  4. Complete and obtain approval for Authorization for Expenditures (AFE).
  5. Work with engineers, designers, and third-party engineering firms to create error-free Construction Work Packages (CWPs).
  6. Review engineering deliverables with Maintenance and Construction Coordinators to ensure practicality and constructibility.
  7. Ensure risk assessments and change management are completed for each project.
  8. Manage schedules and budgets for sustaining capital projects.
  9. Provide engineering support during procurement and construction phases of sustaining capital projects.
  10. Develop yearly budgets, cost forecasts, and long-range plans for projects.
  11. Ensure proper project close-out upon completion.
Qualifications:
  • An Engineering Degree is preferred, ideally in Mechanical, Civil, Materials, or Metallurgical Engineering.
  • Technologist Degree with piping design experience will be considered.
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a professional engineer in Alberta with APEGA.
  • Project Management Certification (e.g., PMI) is an asset.
Experience:
  • Minimum 4 years of experience; 5-10 years in operational oil and gas facilities with PE designation preferred.
  • Experience working directly with Operations and Maintenance personnel is essential.
  • Experience managing small to mid-sized capital projects is an asset.
  • Familiarity with WCB and Alberta OH&S regulations.
Competencies:
  • Excellent communication, documentation, leadership skills, and a strong work ethic.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to facilitate issue resolution within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Self-motivated, highly organized, and punctual.
  • Experience with facilities process safety reviews, including MOC, PHA, HAZOP, and similar techniques.
