Job description

Our client, a major oil and gas producer, is looking for a Facilities Engineer based out of their field office in Fort McMurray, AB. Reporting to the Lead Facilities Engineer, this is a contract position on a 4/3 schedule. Flights are provided from Edmonton or Calgary, or shuttle services are available to and from Fort McMurray if you are local to the region.

Responsibilities:

  1. Communicate regularly with your Business Unit Team to determine engineering support needs.
  2. Understand the status of all projects in your value stream; work with the Small Projects Coordinator to prioritize Engineering Work Orders (WOs).
  3. Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering during project scoping to ensure clear scope justifications for Engineering WOs.
  4. Complete and obtain approval for Authorization for Expenditures (AFEs).
  5. Work with engineers, designers, and third-party engineering firms to create error-free Construction Work Packages (CWPs).
  6. Review engineering deliverables with Maintenance and Construction Coordinators to ensure practicality and constructibility.
  7. Ensure risk assessments and change management processes are completed for each project.
  8. Manage schedule and budget for sustaining capital projects in your area.
  9. Provide engineering support during procurement and construction phases of sustaining capital projects.
  10. Develop annual budgets, cost forecasts, and long-term plans for projects.
  11. Ensure proper project closeout upon completion.

Qualifications:

  • An Engineering Degree is preferred, preferably in Mechanical, Civil, Materials, or Metallurgical Engineering.
  • Technologist Degree with piping design experience will be considered.
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a professional engineer in Alberta with APEGA.
  • Project Management Certification through PMI or equivalent is an asset.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience; 5-10 years in an operational oil and gas facility with a Professional Engineer designation is preferred.
  • Experience working directly with Operations and Maintenance personnel in an operational facility is essential.
  • Experience managing small to mid-sized capital projects using established project management processes is an asset.
  • Familiarity with WCB and Alberta OH&S regulations.

  • Ability to facilitate issue resolution within a large multidisciplinary team.
  • Highly motivated, self-managed, and punctual.
  • Committed to structured processes and procedures in project execution.
  • Experience with facilities process safety reviews such as MOC, PHA, HAZOP, and 'What if' analyses.
