Job summary

Matador.ai is seeking a hands-on Financial Controller to own and scale our financial operations across multiple entities and geographies. You will manage accuracy of books, close processes, and financial reporting while overseeing an AR coordinator and collaborating with the Head of Finance & Operations.

This builder role focuses on establishing strong finance foundations in a fast-growing startup, with a hybrid work model in Laval and competitive compensation.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in accounting or finance.
• Experience in SaaS, technology, or B2B services (strongly preferred).
• CPA designation or in progress (valued asset).
• Strong Excel skills; comfortable with financial reporting and reconciliation.
• Experience with NetSuite, QuickBooks, or similar accounting systems.

Responsibilities

• Own day-to-day accounting across general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, billing and collections.
• Manage the month-end and year-end close process with multi-entity and multi-currency accounting.
• Lead the implementation of NetSuite and drive scalable financial processes.
• Ensure revenue recognition aligns with SaaS contracts and billing structures.

About the Role

We're looking for a hands-on Financial Controller to own and scale our financial operations. This is a foundational role for someone who thrives in a growth environment, who wants to shape and optimize processes, contributing to the evolution of a growing structure, and takes pride in running a tight, well-organized finance function.

You will be responsible for the accuracy and integrity of our books, the timeliness of our close process, and the quality of our financial reporting — across multiple entities and geographies. You'll work closely with the Head of Finance & Operations and report into them directly. You will also manage one direct report, our internal AR coordinator, who handles client-facing billing and collections.

This is not a strategic finance role. It's a builder role — for someone who wants to own a function, do the work, and set the foundation for a world-class finance operation.

What You'll Do

Accounting Operations

Own day-to-day accounting across general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, billing and collections.Monitor outbound payment obligations and ensure funds are available when due, recording transactions through journal entries in NetSuite.Manage the month-end and year-end close process, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and complete balance sheet reconciliationsEnsure accurate multi-entity and multi-currency accounting across Canada and the United States

Prepare and maintain monthly financial statements, management reports, cash flow analyses, and supporting schedulesPerform variance analysis and support forecasting in collaboration with the Head of Finance & Operations

Systems & Process

Lead the implementation of NetSuite and manage the migration from QuickBooks OnlineEstablish and maintain accounting policies, internal controls, and scalable financial processesLeverage third-party tools and automation to improve efficiency and operational excellence

Revenue & Compliance

Ensure accurate revenue recognition in line with SaaS subscription and contract structuresCoordinate with external accountants, auditors, and tax advisors across Canada and the US

Who We're Looking For

Experience

5+ years of experience in accounting or financeExperience in SaaS, technology, or B2B services (strongly preferred)Exposure to startup or early-stage companies (strong asset)Experience with automotive retail or dealership environments (a plus)Experience in multi currency and jurisdictionCPA designation or in progress (valued asset)

Technical Skills

Strong understanding of SaaS financial models and subscription revenueExperience with revenue recognition and contract-based billingProficiency with NetSuite, QuickBooks, or similar accounting systemsStrong Excel skills; comfortable with financial reporting and reconciliation

Language

Comfortable working in English; French proficiency is a strong asset
