Job description

Our dynamic team is growing, and we have a new opportunity for an environmental Technician with 3-5 years of experience to work in a multi-disciplinary team that solves complex issues for our clients throughout Alberta. The position is one of three in the Remediation Program Management (RPM) team which has offices across Canada. This role will include the planning and preparation of two annual field programs, the participation in the field programs and the preparation of reports following each field program. You should enjoy being part of a close-knit team and appreciate the benefits that a large organization can bring, including career progression, access to vast technical expertise, having a dedicated mentor, being able to participate in employee resource groups, and more.

A day in the life:

  1. Be part of a Canadian-based firm, applying and expanding your technical, client delivery and project delivery skills.
  2. You participate in a team environment, working closely with Project Coordinators, Project Managers, Senior Project Directors/Technical Leads, and Field Technicians/Scientists/Engineers.
  3. As a part of our team, we each bring our lived experiences in hand, where we have the power to design a place where people, friends, families, and neighbors can thrive.
  4. Maintain a work-life balance, logging in remotely or attending the office in a hybrid work solution of 3 days a week in the office.
  5. Clearly identify and understand project objectives, bringing your ideas and solutions to your project manager, project directors, and mentors, and developing well-understood specific work instructions and health and safety plans.
  6. Develop your career by having several different mentors to plan, adjust, and grow your career at WSP.
  7. Guided by our Zero Harm policy and rigorous Health, Safety and Environment standards, with your knowledge and experience, support the development and improvement of project health and safety plans.
  8. Participate and be a member of a 25-person region-specific delivery team, while at the same time leveraging the experience and expertise of the entire RPM group.
  9. Apply your love for the outdoors and complete fieldwork assignments centered around the Northwest Territories.
  10. Mentor junior staff in environmental practices including Phase I and II ESAs, drilling, surveying, groundwater sampling, oversight of remediation, etc., as well as on-site specific health and safety.
  11. Execute fieldwork in remote locations during two field programs (winter and summer). During those field programs, you will work in shifts of approximately two weeks on and two weeks off, to a maximum of three shifts.

What you'll bring to WSP:

  1. College diploma in natural/earth sciences or a related field.
  2. Minimum of 5 years of field experience in contaminated site assessments and/or environmental industry.
  3. Experience working in remote locations and/or camp settings; experience working in the territories is considered a strong asset.
  4. Sound understanding of the need for health and safety procedures in the workplace and possess a safety-conscious attitude.
  5. Strong field experience and willingness to work as a team in remote settings.
  6. Your technical ability to troubleshoot and brainstorm to ensure environmental data collected meets project objectives.
  7. Professional designation or a professional in training is preferred.
