Integrated Geomatics Inc. has a permanent, full-time opportunity available for an Intermediate Field Biologist/Environmental Technician to join our growing environment team. Preference will be given to candidates in Northwestern Alberta, living in and around Edmonton or Grande Prairie. In this position, the successful applicant will be responsible for conducting field assessments with a focus on wetlands, fisheries, vegetation, soils, and wildlife sweeps. The successful applicant will be comfortable working outdoors throughout the year in remote locations for extended periods of time.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and lead biophysical and other field assessments and surveys.
Classify and delineate wetlands according to the AWCS.
Conduct watercourse assessments and fish habitat surveys.
Conduct vegetation assessments and classify soils.
Assess potential effects of projects on wetlands and watercourses.
Analyze and interpret field data and communicate findings in a clear and concise manner.
Effective communication skills to liaise with clients and provide project status updates and recommendations.
Utilize various GIS software such as ArcGIS and Global Mapper to process field data.
Ensuring clients’ and IGI’s safety standards are maintained.
Skills and Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in biology, environmental sciences, or a related field.
A minimum of 3 years of fieldwork experience conducting wetlands, fisheries, wildlife, and vegetation surveys in Alberta.
General understanding and knowledge of regulatory policies and regulations pertaining to the Master Schedule of Standards and Conditions (MSCC), Alberta’s Water Act, Wildlife Act, Wetland Policy, and the federal Fisheries Act.
Previous experience working with an environmental consulting firm and/or experience working in a similar role is preferred.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with exceptional time management skills.
Ability to work in a team and independently, as required.
Experience leading field crews and mentoring more junior staff.
Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license
Currently registered as a P.Biol., P.Ag., R.T.Biol, etc. in Alberta or eligible for professional registration.
All field equipment, tools, and a vehicle will be provided.
Compensation
Compensation dependent upon experience and qualifications. This position is eligible for overtime. A comprehensive benefits package with a health spending account provided.
