About MLSC:

The Muslim Legal Support Centre (MLSC) is a community-based legal organization that exists to advance access to justice for Ontario’s Muslim communities through culturally responsive legal services, public legal education, and systemic advocacy.

Position Summary:

As the MLSC prepares for a new phase of growth and service innovation, we are seeking a visionary and strategic leader to guide our organization through transformation and manage operations, all while staying rooted in our mission to provide culturally responsive services to our communities and address systemic Islamophobia.

The Executive Director (ED) provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and organizational vision for MLSC. This includes:

  • Program Leadership: Overseeing delivery of legal services including summary legal advice, legal hotlines, drop-in clinics, and public legal education workshops.
  • Strategic Planning: Developing annual plans and setting long-term organizational priorities in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
  • Organizational Transformation: Drive organizational change processes, including structural optimization. Identify and evaluate emerging trends in service delivery to ensure the MLSC remains responsive and forward-looking.
  • Staff Management: Supervising a team of lawyers, coordinators, and students, supporting professional development, and leading hiring and performance processes and updating MLSC policies.
  • Partnership Development: Building and maintaining relationships with legal clinics, community groups, funders, mosques, and allied organizations across Ontario.
  • Fundraising and Grant Management: Identifying funding opportunities, writing grants, managing funder relationships, and ensuring timely reporting.
  • Communications and Advocacy: Representing MLSC publicly; preparing strategic communications; overseeing messaging on issues such as Islamophobia, discrimination, immigration, and housing rights.
  • Board Relations: Supporting the Board with reporting, governance, and strategy development.
  • Systems Oversight: Managing operational infrastructure including payroll, HR, technology, and financial systems.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated leadership in the nonprofit or legal sector
  • Experience with strategic planning or organizational transformation
  • Strong grant writing and reporting skills
  • Understanding of systemic barriers faced by Muslim communities in Canada
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to advancing the rights of equity-seeking communities
  • Excellent communication and team management abilities

Compensation

A competitive salary will be offered, commensurate with experience.
