Events Assistant

Primary Purpose: Theevents assistantrole is a key part of the front-line team responsible for delivering a safe, welcoming, and well-organized experience at university-hosted events, including high-profile public gatherings such asHuskies athletic events, convocations, and student-led activities. Key responsibilities include providing guidance and assistance to attendees, monitoring entrances and exits, verifying tickets or credentials, guiding crowds, monitoring guest behaviour, and enforcing policies. This position provides elements ofguest services,event logistics, andlight security, such that both university community members and public attendees enjoy a positive and secure environment.

Typical Duties or Accountabilities:

  • Monitors guest behavior and reports safety concerns or disruptive conduct.
  • Documents and reports incidents to supervisor or peace officer.
  • Reviews campus emergency procedures and assists in evacuations or first-aid situations.
  • Greets attendees and provides directions, event information, and seating guidance.
  • Assists attendees with accessibility needs and monitors for inclusive access to all areas.
  • Monitors entrances and exits, and verifies tickets or credentials.
  • Guides crowd flow and line control at high-traffic areas such as entrances, concessions, and restrooms.
  • Enforces university and event-specific policies such as no smoking, no outside food, no photography, etc.
  • Assists with setting up and moving event equipment as required.
  • Communicates and acts in a respectful and professional manner, collaborates effectively, abides by policy, and contributes to a positive and productive work and learning environment.
  • Engages in continuous learning by participating in activities, training, and events related to Indigenous engagement, reconciliation, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Demonstrates respect and dignity for all members of the community, actively contributes to an environment of acceptance and inclusion of others, and responds to different perspectives from a place of curiosity, respect, and non-judgement.
  • Undertakes related duties, as assigned, consistent with the nature of the position.

Education & Experience:

  • Grade 12 diploma.
  • Must have First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Minimum one year’s experience in event support or security is preferred.

Skills:

  • Ability to interact courteously and tactfully with guests and clients.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a customer-first attitude.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform light physical tasks (e.g., lifting up to 25 lbs, moving equipment).
  • Familiarity with campus layout and university policies is an asset.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays as required by event schedules.
