Westside in Calgary, Alberta is seeking an Evening & Weekend Childcare Worker to provide quality care for children ages 0-12 in the Child Development Centre. This hands-on role creates a welcoming, safe environment for children during evenings and weekends.

You will supervise, plan play-based activities, support families, and maintain safety and cleanliness of the play areas. Requires Level 1-ECE or equivalent and Alberta First Aid; you must be 18+ and willing to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of Level 1-ECE certificate or equivalent.
  • Current Alberta Approved First Aid (CSA Z1210-17).
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Search at applicant’s cost.
  • Must be 18 years or older.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and care for children; provide snacks and hygiene.
  • Plan age-appropriate, play-based activities.
  • Ensure safety of children and staff.
  • Communicate with parents and complete forms.
  • Attend trainings and staff meetings.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of equipment and areas.

Job description

The role of the Evening & Weekend Childcare Worker is to provide quality care for children ages 0-12 years in the Child Development Centre. This hands-on position will deliver an engaging, welcoming and safe environment for children while they explore in an open-ended play environment. This role will work on evenings and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities:
  • To supervise and provide care to all children. The care of each child includes snacks, feeding, diapering, toileting, washing hands and faces
  • Ensure safety of children and staff while in the facility
  • To plan and implement age appropriate, play-based activities such as dramatic play, large and fine motor play, manipulative toys, reading, blocks, floor play, circle time, games and art activities
  • Actively and enthusiastically participate with the children providing positive guidance
  • To clean and maintain toys and equipment
  • To set-up, take down and general maintenance of the equipment and facility area
Administrative:
  • Attend any staff meetings/additional trainings
  • Communication with parents, providing important information about their child's experiences
  • Ensure medication forms, waiver forms, and authorization forms are completed
  • Conduct sign-in and sign-out procedures at the greeting desk
  • Keeping track of receipts for childminding payments
  • Perform First Aid as required
  • Complete Incident Report Forms as required
  • Maintain activity areas to ensure cleanliness and safety
  • Ensure the safety of participants and program area
Skills Required:
  • Ability to work in a large team environment and independently
  • Ability to work within a multi-age group setting
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Experience with infants, toddlers and/or children
Physical/Psychological Demands:
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment
  • Ability to lift 20-25 lbsand work in a daily routine of sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, and kneeling
  • The successful candidate must hold high ethical standards as they are working with a vulnerable population, and has access to confidential information
Qualifications:
  • A Minimum of Level 1-Early Childhood Educator Certificate or Equivalent required

Must have current Alberta Approved First Aid training agency - CSA Standard Z1210-17 Intermediate First Aid

  • Successful applicant must have a clear Vulnerable Sector Search at their own cost
  • Must be a 18 years or older
Employment Term:

Part-time

  • Special Events (as required, Friday/Saturday evenings)
