Responsibilities

  • Assist in delivering our consumer insolvency services
  • Work directly with individuals and small businesses in financial difficulty to assess their situations and help them understand their options under the Bankruptcy & Insolvency Act (BIA)
  • Strategic thinking regarding the Debtor’s needs, understanding risks and options, and consulting with Trustees on higher-risk client engagements
  • Oversee preparation of documents and filings such as Statements of Affairs, Proposals, and cash flow statements
  • Conduct follow-up calls and correspondence with Debtors
  • Administer formal insolvency appointments, including bankruptcies and proposals
  • Process insolvency documents during file administration, such as income and expense reports and Statements of Receipts & Disbursements (experience-dependent)
  • Ensure compliance with deadlines and filing requirements of the BIA
  • Contribute to improving work processes through new ideas and approaches
  • Identify ways to enhance stakeholder relationships and deliver added value
  • Assist in developing and coaching junior team members, maintaining high-quality standards
  • Participate in internal and external training to develop skills and knowledge
  • Build relationships with referral sources and promote MNP insolvency services through presentations and community involvement
  • Provide backup BIA counselling sessions as needed

Skills and Experience

  • At least 2 years of experience in consumer insolvency with direct consultation responsibilities
  • Completion of the Insolvency Administrator’s Course
  • Completion of the Insolvency Counsellor’s Qualification Course is an asset
  • Accounting, payroll, or related experience is an asset
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Teams, and virtual software
  • Knowledge of Ascend insolvency software
  • Working knowledge of the Bankruptcy & Insolvency Act
  • Flexibility to work hours that meet Debtor needs, adaptable based on circumstances
  • Attention to detail and proofreading skills
  • Some travel may be required, with potential bases in Calgary or Central Alberta, including Red Deer
