Qualifications

Responsibilities
  • Assist in delivering consumer insolvency services
  • Work directly with individuals and small businesses facing financial difficulties to assess their situations and explain options under the Bankruptcy & Insolvency Act (BIA)
  • Think strategically about debtor needs, understanding risks and options, and consult with Trustees on high-risk client engagements
  • Oversee the preparation of documents and filings such as Statements of Affairs, Proposals, and cash flow statements
  • Conduct follow-up calls and correspondence with Debtors
  • Manage formal insolvency appointments including bankruptcies, consumer, and Division I proposals
  • Process insolvency documents during file administration, based on experience, such as income and expense reports and Statements of Receipts & Disbursements
  • Ensure compliance with deadlines and filing requirements of the BIA
  • Contribute to improving work processes through new ideas and approaches
  • Identify ways to strengthen stakeholder relationships and add value
  • Assist in developing and coaching junior team members, maintaining high-quality standards
  • Participate in internal and external training to enhance knowledge and skills
  • Build relationships with referral sources and promote MNP insolvency and advisory services through presentations and community involvement
  • Support BIA counseling sessions as needed
Skills and Experience
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in consumer insolvency consulting
  • Completion of the Insolvency Administrator’s Course
  • Completion of the Insolvency Counsellor’s Qualification Course is an asset
  • Accounting, payroll, or related experience is an asset
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Teams, and other virtual platforms
  • Proficiency with Ascend insolvency software
  • Working knowledge of the Bankruptcy & Insolvency Act
  • Flexibility to work hours that meet debtor needs, adaptable based on circumstances
  • Attention to detail and proofreading skills
  • Willingness to travel; position based in Calgary or Central Alberta, with travel to Red Deer as required
